Questions About Future Army Training?

If you are a Commission Officer what training do you go through? I know that when you are an ensign you go through speciality training. Do officers go throught that as well? I would like to be an 18D Special Forces Medical Sergeant. How do i get there from being a 2nd Lt. just commissioned. I intend to attend Ranger School and then Serve in the Infantry. Hope fully a Grad from West Point. I guess im asking about what schools would be open to me and when i would be able to attend them. I know that i will be able to attend Ranger school after college, but im wondering when i would be able to attend some sort of army medical program and if officers attend any programs out of college before being assigned to a unit.

18D is ENLISTED ONLY. its not avialable for officers.

anyway, officers are mainly administrative in the army. there are ones that are officers because of their specialty (doctors for example) and others that actually do a job in the field (like when an infantry PL rolls around with his guys) but the majority of officers are administrative type jobs.

officers dont really go through a specialty training unless they're some sort of combat arms. otherwise they just go through a basic course that teaches them the administrative side of stuff.

unlike enlisted, you do not get to choose your job as an officer. you can make a wish list, but its just that.

its very hard to get into west point

you MIGHT be able to go to ranger school while your still a cadet...MIGHT is the key word. chances are youll have to wait until youre at your unit and have the option to reup.

unless you come in as a doctor, the ONLY medical program you will go through as an officer is CLS or maybe TC3 if your unit has its medics teach it to everyone. long story short you wont be doing medical stuff as an officer unless you're joining as a medical provider
