Does Leap Year affect the time of sunset?

I seem to recall years when the the sun was down and the sky was dark by 4pm on the winter solstice; and yet this year at the winter solstice, the sky wasn't completely dark before about 5pm. I was wondering if this was just my imagination or does the sunset at winter solstice actually happen at a different time year by year and is this part of what Leap Year is trying to put back in synch?

The leap year adds a day to the calendar every four years to keep the calendar in step with the actual year. The year is 365.25 days ( it is in fact slightly shorter 365.2422) Leap years don't affect the time of sunset, the sunset on the winter solstice will be virtually identicall every year.

The amount of cloud cover can affect the perceived sunlight even though the sunset stays the same. In winter when days are particularly cloudy, the days seem even shorter. Certain websites will show you the exact times and explain various factors, for example: http://susdesign.com/sunangle/
