How can I get records or copies of checks I sent in the 1980s?
I am trying to get copies of checks or statements I wrote on my Garden State check account in NYC. DO banks generally provide this service? ANy clues on how to start? I no longer have the account number but there is a small chance I can find it.

I suggest that you call the bank and ask them what you can do. Chances are, if they do have copies they can send you, they'll charge a nominal fee for the service.

Unfortunately I don't think you are going to have much luck. I work for a bank and we only have to keep information up to seven years. If the bank has gone through mergers, it is even harder to find the info. You can check with your bank, but I don't think you will get very far. And, if by chance they have all those files backed up somewhere (which most likely wasn't the case since we didn't have the same technology back then), they would charge you an arm and a leg for the information you are looking for, and their time.
Good luck!
