My son is 5 months old, almost 6 and hates tummy time. Should i be worried?

He can push himself up but can't roll over. I try to encourage him and he doesn't do it. He sleeps on his tummy so he is good at propping himself up. Should i be worried? He can't get up on all fours yet. Not crawling and beginning to feel like he is developmentally behind. Any advice?

my baby hates it too, he is 4 months. the nurse told us to put him on the tummy to develop his neck and shoulder muscles, although he holds up his head very nicely for some time. and today he rolled over!

Nothing to worry about at all. Lots of babies hate tummy time and get frustrated very quickly. I have twins, my little girl is rolling over now (4.5 months) but my little boy just lies there and seems lazy.. my little girl is alot more advance at other things to but i have been told by many a people that boys take longer to develop and learn things.

For instance i know two 20 month old babies boy and a girl and it was fasinating to see how much slower the boy was.. he's only just started to walk whereas the girl has been walking for months.

You are doing a great job, keep giving him tummy time and do not worry, he will get there in the end.

My son will be 5 months on Monday and he still only sits supported..and he only started rolling from back to tummy completely last Saturday. And since then he's been doing it all the time. He has been rolling from tummy to back since 8 weeks though.

They all seem to hate tummy time which sometimes causes us to not do it enough. I doubt your son is developmentally delayed at this point. Just give him some time and more opportunities. Your 6-month check-up is soon so talk to the doctor then. Ask him at what point to be concerned since he's not behind yet. If you have any other developmental concerns, bring them up as well. I think he's just fine so far though.

  • My daughter didn't roll over until she was 7 1/2 months, I don't remember when she started to crawl but it wasn't long after that. She hated tummy time too. I wouldn't worry. Funny thing is she was cruising before she was crawling lol.

Just relax, enjoy your baby, and read more credible book on babies. Read Burton White's, First Five Years of Life, and learn more. Your baby is doing fine.

If there was the slightest doubt, your pediatrician would have told you that. Be sure you have your son examined monthly; don't miss those visits. That will help you be more at ease, too.
