Which U.S Military Branch would fit me best, Marines or Army?
I am in high school, and I am 99.9% sure that I want to pursue a career in the United States Military. I narrowed my decision down to the Marines or the Army, since my father is a retired Paratrooper and my Grandpa is a former Army Captain. I have considered the Army, but I also considered the Marines because I always like a challenge. I have about a 3.3 GPA in school right now. I love fighting, so I was wondering if the Marines would be a bigger challenge, or would the Army be a good starting point for my career. I am in good shape, so I don't think bootcamp will be much of a problem, even though it'll probably be rough. Any suggestions?

You can get a challenge in either branch. It is a common misconception by kids in high school that once you complete Marine Boot Camp that you went through the hardest possible military training known to man. While Boot Camp can be considered hard, it's not going to be as hard as going through Ranger School or Special Forces Selection. On the other hand, the Marines do have Force Recon and they can attend some of the schools the Army offers.
What I would recommend is sitting down with an Army and Marine recruiter. Compare the different benefits and what jobs each offers you. There's no obligation to join from talking to a recruiter or even taking the ASVAB. This way, you get both sides of the story instead of the opinions of teenagers who don't know much more than they saw in Call of Duty.

Personal observation.... This coming from a 20 year navy vet.
I have worked with all the different services. And I can tell you this.. The Army recruiting standards have fallen dramatically. While I would like to poke jabs at the army in good humor, I sincerely think they are far below what they used to be. Two wars and the need for so many people has led them to bring in many less than qualified candidates. The Marines on the other hand are pretty much the same Corps that I was with when I was a Corpsman 22 years ago.
Since retiring from the Navy two years ago, I have worked with mostly Marines in Iraq and back here in the US. I also have worked with a few Army, and while I dont judge a service by a few people, they are severely lacking.
With that said, there are still outstanding Army soldiers. You still have some great people there. But on a whole, I would rather be a Marine because I would trust the people surrounding me more.

if you really want a physical challenge in the Marines, you should become a Marine Infantryman for 6 years and then try out for MARSOC.
if want a physical challenge in the army go for the 75th Ranger Regiment or the Army Special Forces

i does not pay attention to all of those democratic morons which attempt to answer this question. they seem to forget approximately that the boys and girls persons who're dropping their lives in this conflict could merely as quickly combat in those people's back yards in the event that they mandatory to. i think of it particularly is extremely honorable to serve interior the militia whether you settle with this conflict or not. i think of it may be an incredible option to connect the Marines. They Marine Corps is bar none the main good branch of the militia. Marines are working in the direction of the gunshots and explosions whilst all and sundry is working away. i think of as a nurse you would be maximum functional interior the Marines as a results of fact they are those that are interior the midsection of each and every important conflict. The Marines will go through the main injuries and casualties and as a nurse, your training could enable the Marines to do their jobs lots extra valuable.

if u want a challenge, join army and go ranger or airborne. then psyops, civil affairs, green berets (all spec ops). the army has ALOT more challenges but u HAVE TO WANT them. the avg soldier doesnt get alot of combat training unlike marines.
if u cant do those and wanna the pride regardless, marine boot is harder than army basic.
marines have marsoc but theyre new and have only 1 battalion so far. and their record is less than setler so far but their training is similar to green berets.

hey, you should check this out, it will help you and I highly recommend it:
You can ask a real soldier and get a reply within 2 hours or even less! He's been in the Army for over 14 years so he knows his stuff and has great insight into Army stuff. Hes very friendly and a great help, the site itself has a lot of good content about the Army, very unique. Go to the "Ask questions" page to ask your question.

If you have to ask, go with Army. People don't become Marines. They are Marines.
