Its in the middle of the day, why has my chicken got her head under her wing?..?

So its the middle of the day and my other four chickens are out in the run, and Deardry, the golden pekin is inside, not eating, lying in the nesting box, she is aprox about 16 weeks old,(she hasn't yet ever lay a egg) and she has her head either in her feathers or under her wing. . . I'm worried because its in the day and shes not eating or drinking.. ? also i put mealworms next to her (her favorite treat) and she has just ignored them...

Thanks and Happy New Year!!

it does sound as though she is sick.

keep clean fresh water with her at all times and encourage her to go outside.

she may just be sleeping but if this occurs daily for a long period of time get her checked out.

at that age she is still a chicken, she won't lay any eggs until she is older. come the summer (May june) you'll not be able to stop her laying eggs.

best bet is to ring the vet see what they suggest you do.

This is most likely a sign of illness.

My bird will wake up to get a treat, though angrily, but won't if it's, say, in the middle of the night and he's gone to bed for the day.

She's most likely sick. Take her to an avian veterinarian.

She's probably sick. Take her to the vet and see if she's ok.

She could just be sleeping or she is sick.
