What do you guys think of Team Canada's final roster?

Here it is:Patrice Bergeron, Boston Bruins; Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins (alt. capt.); Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks; Dany Heatley, San Jose Sharks; Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames (alt. capt.); Patrick Marleau, San Jose Sharks; Brenden Morrow, Dallas Stars; Rick Nash, Columbus Blue Jackets; Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks; Mike Richards, Philadelphia Flyers; Eric Staal, Carolina Hurricanes; Joe Thornton, San Jose Sharks; Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks.

Defense

Dan Boyle, San Jose Sharks; Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings; Duncan Keith, Chicago Blackhawks; Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim Ducks (capt.); Chris Pronger, Philadelphia Flyers; Brent Seabrook, Chicago Blackhawks; Shea Weber, Nashville Predators.

Goalies

Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils; Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins; Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks.

I think it is a very strong team, and is the favorite to win gold. Your thoughts?Who should have made it that didn't and who shouldn't have that did? Also, what would your team be like?

Update:

@the Girl:Yes, that should be really good. SJ is sending 7 players to the Olympics so far, maybe 8, 4 for canada, 1 for russia, 1 for sweden, and maybe 1 for USA(pavelski)

Update 2:

Think the Lines are going to be:

Heatley-Thornton -Marleau

Crosby-Iginla-Nash

Getzlaf-Perry-Staal

Richards-Morrow-Toews

Bergeron, I don't know

D:Seabrook-Keith

Pronger-Niedermayer

Boyle-Weber

Doughty

G:Broduer will start, the Luongo, then Fleury

There are probably 10-15 skaters who you could make something of a case for being on the team (the goaltenders were probably the most settled; I'm not sure anyone worth reading didn't have Brodeur, Luongo, and Fleury). I'd have thrown Stamkos in the mix; he's a great "get something out of nothing" type, and maybe Bouwmeester or Green instead of Doughty, but as I said over lunch to one of the guys in the office "36 does not go into 23".

I'll cheer like heck and hope Team Canada wins.

I partially agree. Speed is a must. So is team defense. Obviously the team is going to be able to score goals. With a 4th line like Lecavalier/Staal/Stamkos that is obvious. I do not care so much about the youth factor. I would prefer a proven leader (Sakic) to a basically unproven, youthful guy (Stamkos). Here's my shot at a roster. Goalies: Brodeur Luongo Whoever plays better in the first few months of the season out of: Cam Ward, Marc-Andre Fleury, Steve Mason. Forwards (don't really care about positioning right now, I will just list top 12. Crosby, Iginla, Sakic Lecavalier, Nash, Getzlaf Heatley, Mike Richards, Carter Staal, Doan, either St. Louis or Savard I put Savard on there because the team has a lot of shooters (Iginla, Lecavalier, Nash, Heatley, Carter, Staal, etc), but could use another set up guy. St. Louis is speedy as hell. Defense is where it gets interesting. Niedermayer is the only lock that I see right now. I would like to see Keith and/or Seabrook Bouwmeester to add some speed. I wouldn't take Phaneuf unless he has an OUTSTANDING first few months. A hip problem hindered him last year, off-season surgery should help, but he needs to prove it. I would like to see Regehr in a defensive role. Pronger wouldn't come close for me, he takes way too many stupid penaltes. So here's what I have Niedermayer - Bouwmeester Keith - Seabrook Regehr - Weber/Phaneuf/Green (whoever has the best start, Green needs to prove he can play defense as well as score, Weber needs to show consistent offensive play)

It's a really, really strong team. I'm still rooting for the good ole' U.S.A, but they most definitely will not win against Canada. Not to mention that they still have to go up against other teams like Russia and Sweden. As a huge Penguins and Crosby fan, I'm proud to see Sidney as an alternate captain. It's also awesome to see Fleury as a goalie; I think that he still has a lot of holes in his game, but with due time he'll be a solid brick wall.

Team looks strong.... not going to lie. These players are going to represent for sure.

I was disappointed Vinny didn't make it or Phaneuf. And I also really wanted Green on the team. But things don't always go your way.

That being said, I like the team a lot. The forwards have depth, leadership and a lot of skill. Good choices with the captain and Alternatives. The defense is strong. And our goalies are going to shine, no doubt.

This is a Great team, who hopefully will bring this nation a Gold.

I like it. Personally I had selected a few different players on the final cut. I would have liked Boumweester over Neidermayer, and Green over Pronger.

Forwards are good, though I disagree with opting out of the Lecavalier pick because he is having a bad season, we need to realise he has been one of Canada's best hockey players for the last 15 seasons. Don't fully agree with Corey Perry either, would have went for Sharp.

I was disappointed when Phanuef and Bouwmeester didn't make it but Doughty and Seabrook had better stats. Doughty is 20 years old and hes in Olympic? maybe he should of been on when hes 24 at 2014 Olympic. Other then that i think there could be Jeff Carter in there.

  • Well, they certainly got depth. They're also my favorite to win gold.

Morrow shouldn't have made it, but that's based on my limited knowledge of him. I haven't really seen him play a whole bunch.

My question is who will be on a line with who? In thinking of my own favorite team, I wonder if Getzlaf will be on the same line as Perry, and who would be the other wing?

Sidenote: wow, san jose got their 3 big forwards on the team.

heres what i think the line combos are going to be:

Nash – Crosby – Bergeron (bergeron and crosby have chem. from juniours in 05)

    Perry – Getzlaf - Iginla

    Heatley – Thornton – Marleau

Morrow – Staal – Richards (i think richards could play wing but please correct me if im wrong, some guys are strictly 1 position)

    Teows

    Neidemayer – Pronger

    Weber – Boyle

    Keith – Seabrook

    Doughty

    Brodeur

    Luongo

    Fleury

I though Doan should've made it over Bergeron and Bouwmeester over Seabrook but they're stacked either way. My prediction: Canda wins Gold over Russia

    Line predictions:

    Bergeron-Crosby-Nash

    Morrow-Toews-Iginla

    Heatley-Thornton-Marleau

    Perry-Getzlaf-Richards

Ok, for those of you who think Vinny Lecavalier should have been chosen, you all are crazy. He's had an EXTREMELY slow start this season and does not deserve to be on the Olympic team. I however do believe St. Louis and Stamkos should have been picked
