So why are Christians opposed to homosexuals marrying?

I know that the Bible say's that homosexuality is wrong, but why can't homosexuals marry?, is marriage Biblical?

Some Bible verses would be helpful.

Matthew 19. Marriage is between one man and one woman. Jesus is clear and makes no exceptions. Though the issue he was responding to was divorce/remarriage, he defines marriage clearly enough that homosexual unions obviously cannot be included within his definition that he answers with scripture when he says:

    19:4

He said in reply, "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female'

5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?

6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate."

The obvious question that follows is why aren't more Christians opposed to DIVORCE and REMARRIAGE when Jesus is clear that divorcing your spouse and marrying another is adultery?

    19:9

I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery.

    As well in Matthew 5

31 "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of divorce.'

32 But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

You'll have to ask King Henry VIII, the Anglican Church (Church of England), and the Protestants who followed suit, if you want an answer to that question.

Marriage is Biblical and in Hebrews 13:4 it says to stay true to your marriage vows.

Lev 15:22 and 20:13 says that Homosexual acts are an abomination.

Romans 1:24-27 says that it is a sin.

1 corn 6:9-10 says that among other sins, homosexual activity will not allow them into the kingdom of heaven.

Others here have given you good answers. Therefore, there is no need to allow same sex marriages and redefine marriage.

I consider "homosexual marriage" to be an absurdity. It is simply a self-contradictory term. There never has been homosexual marriage, and never will be homosexual marriage. There also will never be square circles. If a law is passed declaring that squares may now be identified as circles, there still will not be any square circles.

If people genuinely regard homosexual relationships as legitimate, then they should stop trying to pass them off as something they are not.

This is not something that I think requires reference to The Bible. Common sense and an understanding of language are sufficient to know that "homosexual marriage" is an absurdity.

    I am Roman Catholic.

    Peace to all.

Yes marriage is biblical. In fact, marriage is suppose to prepare us with our eternal and intimate relationship with God (more on this subject elsewhere).

You see, we don't care as much about gay's personal lives, but moreover how it affects everyone else's lives, including children. This is also a demonstration towards our society becoming tolerant of anything that feels good. It is in a sense promoting humanism.

By promoting homosexuality churches are being forced to allow a gay marriage to not only adopt, but also allow them to get married at a church by law. Children are being taught in schools that it's okay, against parents efforts, and if Christian's go against this, they are cases where they have been sent to jail.

I don't think marriage is religious in nature at all. Marriage is a contract between two adults and the state they live in the gives that couple certain privileges that non-married adults do not get. To enter into this contract requires little more than some filed paperwork. Like you I don't understand how the religious can claim providence in this area as this would be a violation of the separation of church and state.

The Christians like to claim marriage as their own however marriage like unions existed well before the time when Christ was supposedly walking the Earth...like so many other things the Christians "stole" to further their own ideas!

The only reason that homosexual marriage has not been allowed is because our governments can't seem to separate church from state...for once I would like to see a non-religious (therefore, intelligent & logical) debate on the matter!

Marriage is in its origins a religious ritual, and if you try to redefine it or who is suited for it, then you are trying to redefine people's religion for them.

Marriage is defined by God as a man and woman becoming one flesh.

If you are asking according to man's law why they shouldn't be allowed a legal union, That's an issue of law of the land but it will never be a marriage as God defined marriage. For a man to have intercourse in another man's anus is unnatural. Stop being Closed minded.

If a homosexual man wants to marry, let him find a nice woman and marry her. That's what marriage is -- the religious and social union of a man and a woman.

Because ..tab a goes into slot b..........tab a will not fit into tab a.....and will not work.....any set of directions will tell you that, open your mine......

Marriage predates the Bible. Despite the fact that Christians like to claim that marriage was a sacred institution created by their god, similar unions existed in cultures long before Christ ever supposedly walked the Earth.

The only arguments that they can provide against homosexual marriage are religious in nature - and thus, inadmissible if we are following the separation of church and state.

They think that allowing gay marriage is the same as telling god that homosexuality is not a sin.
