My 17 month old may be having seizures???,,,?
My daughter had a high fever of 102 last week. I took her to the drs because of that and because her body kept jerking everytime she sat still or went to doze off to sleep. She was having febrile seizures I was told because of the rapid increase in her temp. The drs told me that once the fever goes away, she will stop having them. Well today, she was running a slight fever of 99 and she started to have them again. She started to jerk and shake when she was in her crib getting ready to go to sleep. I have a drs appt for her tomorrow at 9 but im still so worried about her and wondering if anyone else can shed some light on what this might be, Thanks,

OK so my daughter had a febrile seizure when she was 21 months old. Hers lasted so long that she had to be life flighted to the childrens hospital. Luckily it was just a febrile seizure. Kids ranging from 6 months to 4 years old have a 1 in 25 kids chance of having one in there life time. They can have a seizure at a 99 degree temp. It doesn't matter how high the temp is it all depends on how fast it rises. And it could only be a slight raise to cause a seizure. I think the best thing you can do is just rotate the fever medicine, so do Motrin and then in 4 hours do Tylenol and then 4 hours later to Motrin again. Rotate it so they are spaced out and that will keep her fever down. I am sorry you are going though this I remember how hard it was when my daughter had one. Just know that febrile seizures are fairly common and do no damage my daughter is now 30 months old and going strong with out another seizure. But my daughter had to be tested for every seizure disorder and that involved a EGG of her head and they also had to take blood from her lower back(sorry forgot what it is called) and everything turned out normal. Good luck!

Get her in the car and go to the ER immediately the next time this happens. It seems to me that a 102 fever shouldn't trigger that kind of thing. A 104 or 105 yes, but not at 102. Something is definitely wrong and it needs to be checked out.
If you don't want to wait until there is a next time I'd make an appointment with a nuerologist and have her checked to see if she has some form of epilepsy, which can be managed and treated with proper care and medical assistance if that is the case.

Some children do develop febrile seizures and they can be very scary. Try to keep her temps down. Do you know the cause of her high temps? Sometimes constant inner ear infections can cause high/rapid temps and well, if the child is prone to febrile seizures, that could be it.
She does need to be seen by her doc, so that's great you have an appointment.
If all checks out, she should grow out of these. Hang tough Mom, it's not easy seeing your baby go through this. Just keep checking on her til she see's the doc.
I wish you all the best!
