What snacks did you bring to the hospital for after labor?
I could have my little one any day now (38w4d), and I am going to the store tomorrow to get a few things to bring with us to the hospital, so my husband doesn't have to fight traffic to go to the store. The only things I can think of is fruit, bottled water, juice boxes, and triscuit crackers....lol
Any suggestions?

They will feed you not to long after you have your baby, i know they gave me a full tray of food and I couldn't eat most of it because I just didn't feel much like eating until about 4 hrs later. They gave me an apple, banana, some crackers, juice, milk and A ham sandwhich like an hour after my last son was born. They said you want the carbs and protein to rebuild strength after giving birth. So I would say if you are going to bring your own snacks that would be the best way to go is fruits and protein.

candy bars, fruit, hard candy, water, snack crackers...they will feed you 3 meals a day and if you tell them you are hungry the nurses usually keep jello, soup, crackers, pop sicles, ice cream and a number of other things available for you, and depending on how nice your nurse is they will hook up your hubby as well. You really won't be that hungry and looking to snack that much. I mean right after labor you will be famished but then your endorphins kick in and your appetite isn't that big.

Oddly, I don't remember bringing snacks. The hospital provided a very good menu, and that was plenty. I DID end up begging family to bring me a fruit-basket/fruit-something and dried blueberries. My mom finally came through, my sisters getting me things like balloons. Really, that's what I plan for this next baby. Asking for someone to get me a fresh fruit tray from a store, or something nicer, but something with a lot of fruit. I didn't eat the blueberries until I was home. :P

I wouldn't even bother. You're not sure how the labor will go, you could end up with a C-section, and if that's the case you won't be allowed to eat for a couple days and they'll start you off with something clear. Your snacks may go to waste. Plus most hospitals have decent menus now. I would say its a waste because its just one more bag to keep track of, etc.
And no, they do not allow you to eat whatever whenever right after a C-section because it is still considered major surgery, and they have to make sure your bowels are functioning properly before they let you eat. Wanna know how I know? I work at the damn hospital.

Of course you can eat right after a c-section- I know I did!
I didn't think to being snacks though...good idea for next time!
How about granola bars, peanuts, oreos... :)
