What was the first religion?

If we all descend from Africa, wouldn't the first religion also be present in all African tribes? Why are missionaries necessary to teach Africans a religion?

Update:

...Not from Africa...? Wow.

The aliens landed more than once and populated other areas of Earth? Not according to DNA. Not according to the ice that covered the planet.

There are spiritual beliefs that are common to all ancient civilizations and started thousands of years before the birth of Christ. Many of the ancient froms of religion are more sensible than some branches of modern religion.

The africans and people from many countries had their religious beliefs, which were perfectly good before the white man gave them bibles and took their land.

I think most missionaries mean well, but there are many ways apart from christianity to look at the world and to understand God.

The first religious beliefs of the human species were probably some form of tribal animism: the belief that all things -- animals, rivers, trees, stones -- had spirits that could be interacted with or placated. Over time, some of these spirits got "bigger" and came to be viewed as gods.

Most scholars will tell you animism was most likely the first religion. However if you want to talk about the first recorded religions it would be the sumerian gods and the egyptian gods. Later we have the zoroastrians, and later the jews, then later buddhists, then later christians, then later muslims.

im not sure about the whole Africa thing but i can tell you this.... The first and only true religion wasn't a religion at all... it was a personal relationship with God, Adam and Eve physically walked with God in the garden of Eden, but then turned against him and sinned, so God promised to send a savior to pay for all of their sins (which was of course Jesus) so people before Jesus believed he would come and people now believe Jesus was the savior (Christians) but they were all one and the same. and by putting your absolute trust in Jesus you become a Christian and experience not just knowing about God but knowing him personally... the way it was meant to be....

Hard to say, but the one thing for sure is that mankind created it... Therefore, God was created in the mind of Man.
