SONY VAIO LAPTOP CARE?
So i got a sony vaio laptop about a month ago. I'm new to laptops, therefore i don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to maintenance. My question is, do you shut down a laptop ? or just log off ? I use it maybe every two days but most of the time everyday. I was told by my sister to log off from my desktop before so it can run better, does this apply to a laptop ?? what about the battery ? which option is better taking in consideration it has a 3 hr battery life ?

About maintenance...
Maintenance is very valuable, the computer's maintenance routine needs to be runned for one month (depending on use...) Maintenance consists of:
De-fragmentation
Disk Checking
Virus Check
Program removal
and many more...
Now lets discuss it shall we?
#1. De-fragmentation
A computer disk drive is like a bookshelf in a library. When the books in the bookshelf gets disordered, the next reader will get hard on finding what he/she's looking for. That's also the same on computers, so you will need a librarian (fragmentary in computer :).)
Steps how to do the fragmentation process
For Windows XP/Vista/7 users...
Click start, point to programs, point to accessories and then click "Disk Defragmenter"
Select the drive you want then click "Analyse"
If the window says "You don't need to defragment the volume", don't continue but if it says "You need to defragment the volume", continue
Wait until the process finish (Please don't use any program while doing the process.)
Done!
#2. Disk Checking
Disk checking is a tool to check bad sectors and checks corrupted files in the disk.
Steps how to use Disk Checking
Right-click "My Computer" and right-click and click properties to the drive you want to scan
Click on "Tools" and click the "Check Now" button
On the check options box, check the appropriate boxes then click the "Check Now" button
Wait until the process is finished (make sure no programs are running or this window will open and will say "The check disk process is not finished very well, so Windows will check your disk after restart." Otherwise, click OK.)
Done!
#3. Virus Checking
Virus Checking is really important, without it your computer will get slower
How to do...
Open your anti-virus program and find the scan tab (or somewhat)
Select the sectors of your computer to be scanned and click scan.
Wait until the process is finished (you can do anything except your computer will lag.)
Done!
Program Removal is also used to remove junk space. It is recommended to remove unused programs so you could store more files.
How to do...
For Windows XP/Vista/7 users: Click start then click settings and click "Control Panel"
Click "Add and Remove Programs" and select the software you want to remove
Click the "Remove" button next to the highlighted software
Wait for the installation process (make sure no programs are in the background cause the uninstaller will ask you to restart after the process or leave it unfinished)
Done!

Hope this helps...

I have never used a sony vaio but i love macbooks. The best thing about them is how all of the software syncs up and you can use them together. Like the photo and video software and iTunes all work together. I think that is a big benefit of having a mac.

Just close the lid if you use it often. It automatically goes on standby mode. Once opened switched on, it opens directly to where you left off and doesn't have to run the booting process. Exercise your battery once in a while, that is, use it without the charger until you are prompted to plug your charger.

If you aren't going to be using your laptop for a while (2 hours+) then shut it down.
You don't ever need to log off, you can just shut your machine down.
If you aren't using it for a short space of time then just close the lid!
