Muscle spasm in neck still hurting?

About 10 days ago I yawned while hunched over in my car and got a muscle spasm in my neck. I went to the ER the next day because it hurt so bad. The Physician said I had a "significant" spasm along the side of my neck running into my shoulder. At that time he gave me Toradol (sp.) and prescriptions for Vicodin, Flexeril and Naproxin. The Vicodin and Flexeril are now gone and the Naproxin helps only slightly. I thought it was getting much better, but now the last couple days it's been hard to sleep again and hurts, causing headaches. Anyone dealt with this? Any good ways to help the pain? Should I see my family physician or will this eventually go away on its own?

One to three times a day, you need to exercise the muscles (all of them) in your neck.

Please don't think that this is just a funny reply. I do this with spasms in my neck and they work.

Using your nose as a 'pointer', act like you are writing the numbers from 1 to 10 by moving your head in order to make the numbers. It looks silly, feels silly, and you might want to do it in private.

This was passed along MANY years ago by a physician writing to Ann Landers. I've tried it and it works very well.

With the 'damage (tightness) you have done to your neck, it may take several days for you to feel any difference.

Give it a try and Good Luck . . l

go see your doctor before you do anything. I would call a nurse help line may be they can give you suggestions what you can do until you a doctor. I have the same problem too and my massage therapist told me that my muscles are too tight. She told me to stretch it. I hope that helps
