Rules change all the time. As it is, it is harder to get in any branch with just a GED. The Army and Navy take more people with GED's. He will have to get his diploma or add 15 collage credits to get in the AF or Marines, and I am not too sure about the AF will even except that..

Hello! I go to a military college and have friends in every branch of the military. I have no personal military experience, but I know a decent amount about it through my friends. Here is my advice on what your boyfriend should consider doing to better his life through the military.
I strongly recommend that he use the military as a chance to get a higher education. Being motivated to do this will be very beneficial for the rest of his life and won't take long. Every military division demands people with a degree and/or a vocational skill. Start by taking the ASVAB and maybe the SAT (there are study guides for both). The Air Force and Marine Corps have loads of opportunities when it comes to college and officer training.
If he considers the Marines, I believe that attending college is required to be considered for an officer position, but the Marines are willing to help him organize this. O.C.S. is also something he can use to forward his career and pay grade in the Marines. Consider the marinecorps website for the officer program.
The Air Force has of course the Air Force Academy where they (at least used to) pay for your classes. I highly recommend the Air Force because it pays well and gives experience with machinery and high-tech equipment. I don't know about requirements for going to the Academy, but Air Force is also good for gaining vocational skills that he can use outside of the service.
The Army is a good service branch, but I wouldn't personally recommend it.
Please let me know what he thinks about this. I'll be glad to provide any more info. or encouragement. My email address is camionero309@yahoo.com
Best wishes and God bless,
James

Marine Crops: Do not let you Enter with a G.E.D you need to be 18 with a high school diploma. Their standards are really high. And has the second highest scoring average on the ASVAB.
Navy: Do not let you enter with a G.E.D you need a High school diploma. Third Highest Avg. on the ASVAB.
Air Force: Do not let you in with just a G.E.D. You need a high school diploma. First Highest Avg. on the ASVAB.
Army: Does let you in with a high school G.E.D you need to be 18. Lowest ASVAB score out of all branches.
I prefer Marines. Other branches are quantity. Marines are quality.
The Navy lets you in with a G.E.D but only a certain number. So you should go to the Recruiting station and request information on that.

He can join any of the with a G.E.D but I personally think the Air Force because i just got out and loved it. It has its rough times just like all the others but I think the standard of living is higher.

The Army ran out of GED slots a few weeks ago and to the best of my knowledge no other branch is taking GEDs. If your boyfriend didn't have his GED yet he could have went to the Army Prep School and earned his GED prior to going to basic but since he already has it he can't use it.
He has two choices:
1. Check with an Army Recruiter in a few weeks to see if we have any slots open. We get GED slots on average once a quarter.
2. Enroll in college so he can get 15 semester hours of college. Once he is enrolled in college he can get a school letter stating when he will have 15 hours and he can enlist in the same category as a high school senior, giving him more options than a GED holder. His ship date will be after he completes his 15 semester hours. To do this option, he needs to do a class he will physically attend, if he uses an online class he will have to wait until he already has 15 hours before he can enlist.

You are able to join the ARMY with a G.E.D.
I want to say that you can join all branches of military as an Enlisted soldier with a high school diploma or a G.E.D.

i would go with the marines only because they train you for any type of scenario he could get into. army doesnt train enough and he is more likely to die. navy would be my second choice only cause he would be safe-kinda. air force is good but he has a chance of getting shot down out of his plane and dying.

Well as far as the GED goes, AD gave some great advice. and it can't hurt to talk to the other recruiters just to make sure. Also, what does he want to do in the military? That helps determine branch
