What's A Good Photo Shop Software For a Novice-Hope-To-Turn-Pro?

I'm good & ready to purchase some photo image software but really do not know which one would be best for me. What I want do be capable of doing is edit my images by removing backgrounds, sharpen blurry photos, basically turn lousy photos into professional looking ones. I know there has got to be someone out there that knows exactly where I'm at....Your answers will be very much appreciated & thanx in advance!!!

One of the standard ones is Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop elements is the less expensive version. (Gimp is sorta like Photoshop, and is free.)

I started using Corel Draw 17 years ago, and am fond of it for a couple of reasons-- firstly, I know it fairly well. Secondly, it has the vector module, and I like working with vector art.

    Hope this helps,

Adobe Photoshop, even Photoshop Elements is a very powerful and not intuitively obvious to use. Yes, it takes some time and perhaps not a good place to start. It's a complex tool that added a mediocre user interface as a second thought. The new versions are getting better. If you use a mac, then iPhoto- but if you used a mac, you would know that and wouldn't be asking. So, a great free program is Picasa3 from Google. search for it, download it, enjoy. It's all pretty obvious. It will help you organize, and do basic photo fixing. And, the price is right.

PhotoShop Elements 8 - A skinny version of Photoshop. Runs around $100 or less depending on were you shop for it.
