Should I see if my ferret likes snow again?

My ferret loves playing outside on a leash. It snowed a lot today (12 inches) so i thought my ferret might like to play in it. The second I took her outside she started shivering, even though she has her full winter coat. As SOON as I put her down in some footprints she went up on her toes with her tail in the air and started to back up a bit into my hands like she didn't want me to let go... It was her first experience with snow and I basically picked her up and brought her back inside because i thought she didn't like it.

I then took her out onto my balcony where there is only a 1/2 inch or so of snow and she seemed fine to run through it.

Since she normally loves being outside and getting out of my apartment, should I try her again and just put her in the snow for a longer (like 30 seconds) to see if she actually likes it? Or would that be mean? Could it have just been the shock of a new thing?

Update:

my balcony isn't closed off so it's not safe. I'm way too scared of her falling and i can't really let her run up there.

I took her back outside and dug a big spot so it was bare ground with snow all around it.

After a millisecond of shock (like before) which i"M guessing was just from the cold on her feet, she ran headfirst into a snowbank and had fun tunneling.

Only a few minutes though.. then she got cold :)

Update 2:

@Tara.. most of what I researched said it was no problem as long as their winter coats are in and you only let them out for a few minutes and dry them well after, the question was more about whether it sounded as though she hated it or was just shocked.

I live in a high rise so its sort of hard to bring snow in as i'd have to take it in the elevator.

My ferret did the same thing!

She hated it! My vet told me not to let her out in the cold because they hate the cold weather and could get very sick-I hope this helps!

Ferrets are very very sensitive to heat and cold. You need to be very careful. What I do with mine is bring the snow inside with a bucket and let them play in that or you could put the snow in the bathtub. That way they aren't cold from the cold air AND the snow. This way they get the best of both worlds.

@Ray lol why is that directed at me, I am like one of the only ones that didn't say DONT DO that. I was just suggesting an alternitive way of trying it.

Source(s): Own 4 ferrets, and did my research before I purchased them.

Just let the ferret play on your balcony instead. It seems like it enjoys that more.

DON'T, ferrets generally hate cold or hot climates, keep it in the middle or they can get sick.
