Where was Jesus during his missing years.?

The bible has no accounts of Jesus life between the age of 12, when he condemned the money changers, and the time of his preaching around the age of 30. What did he do during his rebellious teenage years and early manhood?

Amongst other things, there is a strong tradition that he travelled. Non-canonical sources state that Joseph of Arimathea (the man who asked Pilate for his body after the crucifixion) was his uncle. Joseph was a merchant, bringing tin in from Cornwall and surrounding areas of what is now England, to the Middle East to be used to make bronze. This trade route is well known to history. It is said that Jesus accompanied him on at least one trip, and there are places in England where Jesus is said to have been. The Blake poem and hymn "And did those feet in ancient time" deals with this.

There are also stories of him travelling to the East, perhaps to Persia, or even India. There is very little "proof" for any of these stories, but the traditions are very strong in certain areas.

One assumes that he trained as a carpenter/cabinet maker, as that was his profession. This would have taken several years.

By the way, that is one of my favorite stories of Jesus because it shows that Jesus was not meek and mild all the time, it show Jesus was not afraid of anyone and that He has some good old Gutzpa, just like me.

To answer your question: I always assumed Jesus was adult when he condemned the money changers? I don't think you are wrong about Him being 12 then.

It doesn't matter what he did the rest of the time, but I know the bible says even as a child, Jesus took a keen interest in what His religious leaders spoke about and listened very keenly to everything they said. I think the rest of the time He was just being a normal child and later on learning how to do carpentry and learning how to fish. I think in his toddler years Jesus must have been gorgeous. I think as a man he must have had lots of respect from his friends and lots of girls interested in marriage to Him.

If He did indeed marry and have kids as some hint at, then good for Him, I would wish nothing less for Him. Furthermore, if His offspring with His bloodline is still continuing to spread then that is exactly what I want for this world and each of us.

Jesus tells us himself, in all 4 Gospels! He was teaching in the temple. Matthew 26:55; Mark 14:49; Luke 22:53; John 18:20. This is not a secret, and we do not have to guess.

A Pharisee would only eat with someone he knew to be a Pharisee.

The Gospels depict Jesus having dinner with a Pharisee at the start of his ministry.

ergo: Jesus must have been a Pharisee before starting his ministry which implies he spent years in study of Torah and other Jewish teachings.

There's no account in the bible but there are a few books that try to fill in the gaps. Christians generally reject them because it ends up painting a different picture of Jesus than they feel safe with.

try 'Jesus lived in India' by Holger Kirsten, that's quite good.
