Is my Newborn Sleeping to Much?!!!!?

Okay, So my son is 6 days old And We started off Breastfeeding. (i believe Breast is Best) But I have Flat Nipples and He couldnt Latch on Properly.

Well My boobs became Engorged and Hurt So bad That i couldnt hardly stand the pain. I was Crying because they hurt So bad and My husband Brought home a Can a formula and Assured me, It was Okay. We had atleast tried.

Well Since we've Used the Formula He has Been Sleeping SOOO MUCH. I was used to him Waking up and Crying for a boob, But now he just wakes Up, Eats, Looks around for a few Minutes, if that, And then He's back asleep.

He is So sleepy that you can pick him and lay him down without him barely noticing. He basically Sleeps while he's eating and sometimes Falls asleep halfway through the bottle.

I need to Know if He is sleeping to much! Could something be wrong? His nose is kinda Stuffy, But he has no fever, is he maybe sick?

(I am still Breast feeding a little too. Only when my soreness lets up a bit. And ive even tried pumping a little, though not much comes out)

Update:

I do use the Nipple Shields. They are The only way he can get a latch (a bad one, But still a latch). I've also Just held an empty bottle to my nipple and Let some milk drain into it.

babies grow and develop in their sleep, so they sleep A LOT.

a full, content, warm and dry baby will slept for the majority of their day, only waking for feeds and short cuddles. After a week or two baby will have an hour (approx) a day where they are alert, but the rest of the day will be waves of food and sleep.

The more a newborn sleeps the better :)

THat is absoloutely perfect, congratultions as well on the birth of your lil AIden. Newborns preety much should eat n sleep, that way they can grow nice n healthy.

When i had my aiden i fell asleep and they left him latched on for an hour which caused alot of damage. I just fed from the other side and then would put him on the sore side once a day but u kindof sound like its both sides right. All you can do is your best.

My mum told me if you give your kids the best that YOU can not someone else can than you have nothing to regret, cause all you can do is your best. Anyway with the sleep thing as long as they are sleeping its fine its when they dont sleep it gets painfull all the best and congrats again.

I think its good you're still trying to BF, don't give it up, even if you supplement with formula. I tried for a week and a half and produced nothing, not a drop.

Almost all babies are congested for the first few weeks, nothing to worry about. I kept my son's head elevated a bit by putting a blanket underneath his bassinet sheet and sucked out his nose a couple times a day.

The first couple of weeks, my son slept a LOT. So I wouldn't worry. And eating usually is a lot of work for them, so they go to sleep afterwards. Do you have a 2 week checkup with a pediatrician? Write down everything you have questions about to ask the dr. I didn't and forgot most of them.

May be you are not producing much milk. About baby sleeping that is not a problem. My daughter also used to do the same thing. After 15-20 days she was normal sleeping for 22 hours.

Babies do sleep a lot. As long as he feeding well, responds to loud sound with startle, crying for milk and gaining weight there is no need to worry. Give as much breast milk as possible. You may try nipple shield or even express milk and give.

they usually only stay up for half an hour at most when they are newborns.

probably wasn't getting enough from breast, just sleeping because he's full
