Volkswagen Passat; just bought one, anything to watch out for?
The car is petrol, 1.8 and is a beautiful vehicle to drive. What pitfalls do Passats have? It is 8 years old with 76000 on the clock and was bought frfom a reputable supplier

If its a turbo engine it is imperative that you change oil/filter frequently. All turbos, not just VWs, benefit greatly from fresh oil. I recommend synthetic oil too.
Keep an eye on the CV joint 'boots'.
Like the other responder said above, check on the timing/cam belt. Most people change it at abt. 90,000 miles [ how many kilometres is that, I wonder?]
So really , no pitfalls, just routine maintenance.. Oh if you can , get an owner's manual .

Check the cam belt history, if it has a cam belt, and if not known get it changed immediately. Other than that you will now be virtually invisible on the road and attract little attention from anyone - not always a bad thing.
