Buying a 1998 Firebird Trans Am LS1, good Idea?

Hi, is it worth it to buy a 1998 Firebird: TA LS1? The LS1 engine has 70k miles on it while the body has near 90k. Some of the details are:

-6 speed transmission-SLP Dual/Dual exhaust-Eibach Sportline Springs- 35% tint on sides, 5% on back- TA WS6 17" wheels with new Yokohama tires-clean

I am going to look at it in a couple days. He is asking 7000 but I am going to offer 6k. I know there are low miles on the engine and decent on the body, but is it worth it at this day and age to buy a 12 year old car? Or should I wait and save for something like a newer Dodge Neon SRT4 or an RX8 (though I hear rotaries get problems quickly)

Thanks!

Update:

Another question: I am bringing my brother with me. He has done a lot of maintenance and work on his old firebird. Because the cars are somewhat similar, he is going to check out the car to the best of his knowledge to make sure everything is in good running condition.

Should I just rely on what he knows about cars or should I pay a mechanic to come check it out? Buying a 12 year old car worries me and I don't want it breaking down anytime soon especially spending pretty much all my money to buy it.

For that price, if everything checks out, absolutely.

    I have a 2000, I love it.

Once you hop in it and bang through a couple gears you'll wonder why you ever even considered a neon. They handle really good as well. You can do some pretty crazy things with the motor - hands down one of the best engines ever created. Take care of it and it will last a long time.

They get really good gas mileage too, especially for a 8 cylinder car. I get roughly 28 on the highway.

The car is a good buy if everything checks out. Also this firebird has a rare option with the 6-speed manual most 4th gen Camaro's & Firebirds had an automatic. The things to keep an eye out for is to make sure there isn't any hacked up or spliced wiring. Also drive the car with the stereo kept turned off so you can listen for any noises or problems the car might have. You also want to look for any hidden signs of collision damage or rust. Make sure the clutch and shifter works properly. If these things are okay it's a great deal.

    Dooooooooooooooooooo it lol

Even at 6500 it's still a great deal. The PCM and wiring harness for the 98 is a bit different and people say the rod bolts are weaker in the 98's but I've seen them last just fine.

SLP dual/dual is probably the best flowing system out there and sounds good....the sportlines are going to ride like complete *** unless the properly valved shocks are used.

Do it, you'll be VERY happy with the decision.

Erock-The SLP dual/dual is one of the best exhausts out there, it's the loudmouth that is junk. Go do a search on flow numbers and you'll see.

70k isn't really low mileage.. but if everything is in great running order.. no rust.. thats one hell of a buy
