In general, the settlements were of two types:

1 - colonies of exploitation has been practiced by Portugal in their colonia (Brazil) and Spain in their various colonies, France, Holland and England (the islands of the Caribbean, Central America and Guyana) ...

2 - colonies of settlement: it was the model used in the thirteen colonies, which later would form the United States of America.

the basic difference between the two types of colony in freedom ... in the colonies of exploitation there was no political freedom, economic and religious ... in the colonies of settlement had complete freedom, which partly explains the great development of the thirteen colonies and economic backwardness of others.

The Spanish did not "like" the French or the English because they were coming to the Americas and challenging their long held monopolies in the hot commodities of the new world (sugar, vanilla, rum, cocoa, etc)

The French did not "like" the English because they were a constant security threat due to reasons beyond the colony's control in Europe. The feeling was reciprocated because the French's answer to this problem was to conduct a war of terror against the English colonists.

Nobody liked the Dutch because they didn't have a problem trading guns, alcohol, and silver to the Indians.

You can't get much more simple than that......
