why cant hollywood leave classic films alone?

i mean look at all the remakes they have... king kong, godzilla, dracula, fun with dick and jane, planet of the apes, clash of the titans, transformers, g i joe...

on http://www.teaser-trailer.com/ theres a whole list of sequeals, trilogies, sagas, and of course remakes.

so why cant they come up with original material and not [usually] mess up the classics?

Update:

markwill... g i joe and transformers were so remakes because i remember seeing the originals back in 1986 in the theatres. they were hand-drawn animated films back then.

Update 2:

alladin i agree with your response but in order to make judgement one must see both the original and the remake.

    I agree with chiepoo.

Its all about the moolah. But believe it or not these kind of films seem to work.It is actually pretty safe for the producers than taking a new script in hand.

I think for some production companies are in it for the money, but i know for a fact that the director is always trying to incorporate the current culture into these classic films to create a new (remake) to appeal to the current generation and for the next few generations to follow. No director wants to make a bad remake, this is not good for their career or for anyone really. But i mean look at the new Batman series it trumps the older films as far as story and quality (in my opinion) because it is much more relate-able, this doesn't take away from the older (classic) films at all though i still love them for what they are and were for their time.

    I fully agree...

I can understand why they would want to do remakes of movies with eye-popping action scenes or sci-fi thrillers which can be better brought to life through recent technical advances, but why they are coming out with a new teenwolf is beyond me... Michael J Fox killed that movie, there is no reason it should resurrected. Foot lose, another one... I think these directors can get some inspiration from James Cameron (creator of Avatar) and take more risks in their story development

A remake doesn't "mess up" the original movie. The original movie still exists and is not changed even one iota. If you don't like the remake, then just ignore it and watch the original. Getting upset about the remake doesn't do any good.

It's all about money. No matter how much people say they are sick and tired of sequels and remakes Hollywood will continue to make them for money. I especially hate it when Hollywood remake Foreign films like the upcoming "Let Me In." Lame.

because hollywood is just a big money making machine, and remakes is an easy way of making films that make money. It also runs in cycles, and at the moment it's popular to re-make classic films.
