Verna, Fiesta and Hondas... are clearly out of your budget!!!! So try Tata Manza, its easily the best VFM car in India....!!!!

How old are you? That decides on how much you will pay for insurance & a Mustang is a sports car, so if you are 25yo or under you pay $$$ (especially in sofla) I'm 31 so I pay $80/mth. Before when I was 25 was paying $250/mth. Ford service is more prevalent (parts&techs-wise) and cheaper than Honda (It's import; more $ and less prevalent service can wait longer time for parts too). Honda's are reliable so they say, but every time I went to get service like rotate tires/flush stuff ended up milking me for $300 on average. My old Mustang had a good mechanic, I paid nothing over $300. My 08 is under warranty, so I don't pay anything really except fuel, oil changes, tire rotate. What I didn't like about my 2000 Civic was cheap plastic everywhere in driver's cabin, low to ground where I felt like i was on the highway with every bump, if you get into an accident (which I did, the whole car crushes and is declared total loss [$5000] from a 10mph fender-bender). My Civic lagged getting on expressway with the air conditioning on (pretty embarrassing), that's prolly because it was only a 4 cyl, but a Mustang is standard 6 cyl. go with a Mustang more powerful! It's funny my immediate car after my Civic was a 1998 Mustang Convertible then after that I got a 2008 Mustang Convertible which is my beautiful car now, but the 2010 is lookin real nice. No convertible option for Civic? GO WITH A FORD MUSTANG. The only thing you will regret is paying for gas (about 18 city mpg), but you can feel more confident in an American muscle car Ford Mustang, rather than a wimpy lil Japanese/import, well-marketed/advertised car.

You can go for the Tata Indigo Manza or opt for the Chevrolet Beat. The upcoming Volkswagen Polo is a smart choice too. This car will be launched in may and Ford India will launch the Fifo in March under 5 lakhs. The Hyundai i10 is a good choice too. www.carazoo.com

There are many options....you need to identify how much running will you do on a per day basis. If its more utilitarian with say around 3000kms/month, would suggest Tata Indigo CS - good value for money, spacious, and low cost of ownership.
If its more fun driving you are looking at, you could consider Hyundai i20 - its a peppy car, great looking, and good for your 'status' too.....
I don't suppose you will get a Fiesta Ford / Verna for 5L....
Cheers!!!

Out of the above, Honda City is the best but the price is above 5 lakhs. You can get a 2nd hand, ZX model around 3lakhs which has a superb mileage (20-22kms on highway) and a delight to drive. It is a no maintenance car, most comfortable seats and highly maneuverable.

Only CS comes within your budget from your selection.
It will be more easy to answer if you add more details in your question such as whether you are looking for a sedan/hatch, diesel/petrol and your daily commute etc..

rather than setting a target of rs 5 lakh u should set targets of wat u want in a car ,e.g,safety (dual air bags etc),size(hatchback oe mid-size) and then compare the featurs of the car of ur taste and then see whether its within ur budget or u may have to compromise a few features.i20,ford fiesta are good cars see if they match ur expectations and budget
