ME had the better story in my opinion and the longer game play. As one of the other respondents stated, a lot of that content was repetitive item/resource gathering type quests. While I didn't think the plot in Bioshock was really all that great and you could see the twist coming a mile away, it blew ME out of the water in terms of atmosphere. Exploring Rapture was a real pleasure.

I was faced with this very question myself and decided to pre-order ME2. It is a tough decision though.

Alright your asking a lot here but I'll do my best.

Bioshock 2 is definitely the game to get, now heres why. Mass Effect 2 is going to be a good game if its anything like the first, but the story and gameplay in Mass Effect 2 will prove to be long and tedious. I'm confident that Bioshock 2 will offer another thrilling and compelling story as it did with the first, which was truly a masterpiece. Also Mass Effect 2 does not have a multiplayer while Bioshock 2 does. NOT to say that multiplayer is the deciding factor because its not by a long shot (MW2 sux), its just that from what I've seen from trailers for the Bioshock 2 multiplayer it looks like it will be promising, and not just a multiplayer thrown into a game for all the online MW2 fiends, it's going to work into the game very well.

Now with Bioshock 1 the better story is clearly theirs, however, while its not a short game, it in no way compares to the length of Mass Effect, but as I said before the length of that game can prove to be long a tedious, just as I suspect Mass Effect 2 to be.

Overall, imo, the Bioshock series surpasses the Mass Effect series on every level except for the awesome graphics for ME and the gameplay. While full gameplay isn't known about either sequels, I felt that the gameplay in ME was better than Bioshock 1, but thats not to say that ME's gameplay is great, because like the game, it does get boring after awhile.

Bioshock was a gripping game that really pulls the player into the story, and I can only expect the same for B2, so go pre-order it and start counting down the days.

If I remember correctly both had a great plot, but Mass Effect lasted much longer than Bioshock. Mass Effect has a lot of side missions, which is something Bioshock didn't have. (It was pretty straight forward.) Honestly, either would be a good idea. I haven't read up much on either of the new games, but the first ones where both really good. It's really personal preference? I don't think Mass Effect has multiplayer, though. Which is something that was promised with Bioshock 2. You'd be better off just looking at both of them yourself and deciding. I've linked the official sites blow. Good luck!

I'm definitely getting both when they are released, but if I had to choose one I'd have to go with... Mass Effect 2. Based on the improvements and new additions to the series that have been seen and talked about so far, it looks like it's going to be amazing.
