  • Have I poisoned my kitten?

I gave my four month old kitten three or four small bits of a pork chop as a treat, each about the size of a sugar cube at most, only afterwards realizing that garlic salt had been used in its preparation. Now I'm not sure what to do. Do you think the amount of garlic she'd have gotten from that would likely be toxic?

  • Would it be hypocritical for a devout theist to design earthquake-proof buildings?

If an earthquake is an act of God, or particularly a sign of His displeasure, how could a devout architect justify what would seem to be an attempt to thwart His will by creating a building that could withstand His righteous anger? Shouldn't it be left to God to decide which structures remain standing and which collapse during an earthquake? You might well also ask similar questions of devout doctors or meteorologists.

Now, you can certainly object that it's preposterous to suppose you can design a building that's proof against an omnipotent being. However, that doesn't help our architect, as you can sin in intent even if the act itself is impossible or improbable (eg, the Tower of Babel).
