To me, Peyton Manning and Brett Favre are the favorites. Both were essential to their teams success this year and you saw what happened with the Colts when Manning wasn't playing. Each have the stats and the team's record to get them MVP honors.

Peyton Manning can tell Brett Favre to move over and make room for him atop the roster of NFL Most Valuable Players.
For the third time, Manning won the award by The Associated Press, tying Favre as the only players in that elite category.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback was a landslide winner Friday in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL. Manning also was the league MVP in 2003, when he shared it with Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair, and in 2004.

Peyton Manning is the MVP.
You can look at stats all you want, Manning is at or near the top in all of them. He did it with a rookie- Collie (granted Farve had Harvin), a second year wr from Mount Union who started in 0 games in 2008, and had to come in when Gonzales went down. A running game that cranked out less yardage (1294) with all their run plays than Minnesota did with 1 (AP had 1383) (they had 1918 yds on the ground), and ran about 100 less running plays than the Vikings.
Mmmm that means Manning is going to throw the ball. Everybody and his brother knows he is throwing the ball and he still beats them. Manning had 16 Interceptions. 7 of which were tips, hits while throwing or missed catches that resulted in ints, at least 2 more were mis-communications. Austin Collie said he ran the wrong route. Peyton threw to where he was supposed to be. That leaves 7 to attribute directly to Manning. In every game that Peyton played the 4th quarter, the Colts won. Cripes! Miami kept him on the sidelines for 45 mins and 7 seconds and he still racked up 303 yards and 27 points to WIN.
Farve racked up the same # of td's (33) with only 7 ints but with 2 more losses (since Manning started he takes the losses even though he was pulled). Farve had a GREAT year. But the Vikings were 10-6 with Tarvaris Jackson, and 12-4 with him. That is not 14-2 only after being pulled.

Peyton Manning, because he has the worst running game in the league, so every defensive coordinator plans their game around stopping him and they still can't. Brett Favre has Adrian Peterson, the best RB in the game to help take pressure off of him, Phillip Rivers has Tomlinson and Sproles. A solid running game does wonders for a QB's effectiveness, Favre and Rivers have that, Manning does not. Plus, over the past several seasons the Colts are dead last in the league in number of offensive possessions per game. The other teams game plan is to chew up as much clock on offense as possible to keep Manning on the sidelines, so Manning gets far fewer possessions per game than those other QB's, so he has to accomplish more with fewer chances. The Colts offense is one-dimensional and other teams still can't stop it. Admittedly, I am a Colts fan, but I've never really been a huge Peyton Manning fan, until this year. the monday night game against Miami is what made me drink the kool-aid.

Peyton Manning. Just like previous guy said. Colts are dead last in rushing offense and teams like New Orleans and Minnesota are at the top.....they have a balanced attack. Manning doesn't have that luxury so in my eyes hes your 2009 nvp....not to mention i believe hes thee best player ion the game and the most valueable to his team. The Colts were ready to be 15-0, until they pulled the plug. I truely believe the Colts could have been 16-0 if the coach played the starters the whole time in the last two games. EVERY nfl fan was robbed on seeing history imo!! To me, hes the smartest qb of all-time and when hes done (if not even now), will go down as the best ever!!!!

Nick P, how are Peyton's stats worse than brady?
he has 102 more yards in essentially 1 1/2 less games
5 more td passes in 1 1/2 less games
3 points higher in both completion percentage and quarterback rating
so what stats are you looking at?
peyton will be the mvp. his stats aren't quite as good as brees or favre, but he means the most to his team by far. they are a very average football team without him, even if they had brees, favre, rivers, brady, rodgers, etc. in my opinion and the AP voters have essentially already said he's going to win it.

Peyton Manning has had his statistically best season ever. Also, in week 16, the Colts pull him in the third quarter while they're leading and they lose their first game. They couldn't hold up for less than a half against the Jets without him. I don't know what else says MVP more than that.
