Not quite the case Bob. The data collected from the surface thermometers is suspect for the following reasons:

1) The thousands of thermometers you refer to collecting the surface data are difficult to place around the world in order to get an adequate measurement of the "Average Global Temperature".

2) Many of the thermometers which were originally located outside the influence of urban heating, have become victims of sprawl. This causes a false showing of warming.

3) Climategate has raised suspicions that the data had been manipulated by biased researchers.

4) The data was "corrected" in a manner that was never explained nor allowed to be audited. The corrected data applied increasing additional corrections upward each year which is inconsistent with the effects of sprawl.

5) The raw data was never released in violation of the Freedom of Information Act, and thus never subjected to peer review.

6) The raw data was deleted and thrown away as media and legal processes closed in forever preventing any verification of the data.

Upper atmosphere measurements by balloon launches agree with uncorrected satellite data, and do not show any warming over the last 30 years of the upper atmosphere, which is exactly where the climate models that the whole global warming theory is based on predicted the major warming would occur.

In fact the raw satellite data does not show warming at the surface for the decade either. There has been another attempt to "correct" the satellite data to make it "more in line with predictions" along the line of what was done to the surface temperatures.

Even if the NOAA surface data is taken as fact, the warming is not alarming. In fact it is consistant with historical warming trends such as the midevil warming period (1000 AD), and or the previous one that happened (0 AD).

Too bad. I would like to agree with you Bob. A global warming trend would be good for agriculture, and help us feed the 250 million new people who are added to the world population every year.

As for the thermometer, all you need to do is get one with a dial, remove the glass on the front, and advance the needle on the rod so that it shows a higher reading every new years. That will "correct" for the errors, and cause it to show a warming trend.

The truth is out and the "science" has been exposed for the junk science that it is. The warming the earth is going through right now has nothing to do with carbon dioxide. co2 is not a greenhouse gas. The sun is responsible for every aspect of climate change, it is the giver of life, as certain youtube videos clearly show. The paradigm is shifting and it is getting harder and harder for the comunist, liberal agenda of AGW, to control us.

Any intelligent person with a 4th grade education can see it for the massive hoax that it is. The world is actually cooling but they don't want anyone to know about it. The sun shut off 3 years ago and it is no longer producing solar irradiance. The world is cooling rapidly and scientists are desperatly trying to make evidence to keep us fooled, and keep us under control.

And it is only going to get colder because the sun is still in a full low activity minimum. When the sun is in a minimum the planets that orbit it cool off until the are cool enough to be warmed by the lower output sun. So as quiescent as the sun currently is that means full ice age conditions like they were 20k years ago. So either way the AGW freaks are out of a job for a minimum of 100 years because if the sun fires back up in 30 years it will be more than 100 before the planet warms up again. So get ready for cold weather and shirt cool summers for a while. I am so glad my grandfather had the sense to move us to California in 1946 as I would hate to be still living in Minnesota now.

Once again someone is confusing weather with climate. Did people think that winter was going to disappear from the face of the Earth? I don't recall that statement in any of the IPCC reports, it must be something they're saying on Fox News or Rush's show.

It appears that someone is acting as an impostor Dr Jello, with an answer that sounds like James E. It would be hard to pick two people that I would less want to emulate than those two.

It isn't one thermometer it's thousands of them. Some are in weather stations, some on satellites, some on ocean buoys. And they say, regardless of winter cold spells, that the Earth, as a whole, is getting warmer over a period of years.

From below: "CO2 is not a greenhouse gas". Sure it is. It passes visible sunlight down freely, but blocks some of the infrared (heat) coming back up from the Earth. Basic physics facts that have been known for over 50 years. That's what a greenhouse gas does.
