Will Peyton Manning really catch Brett Favre?

Brett has 497 TD passes and 69,329 passing yards. He has just completed his 19th season. Manning is 33 years old and just completed his 12th season. He has 366 TD passes and 50,128 passing yards. I think Manning will only play 3 seasons, maybe 4, and then retire.

Manning is 19,201 yards behind and needs to average 6400 yards per season if he plays 3 more years and 4800 if he plays 4 more. He is 131 TD passes behind and needs to average 44 TD passes per season if he plays 3 more seasons and 33 if he plays 4 more.

Granted, Manning is moving at a faster clip than Brett did, but can it continue? I don't think so and I doubt if he will care enough about being #1 to play until he does. He's fun to watch, so just like with Brett Favre, I hope he plays as long as he possibly can. He's just amazing at times.

Update:

EDIT: Nice one, D Hue

EDIT: Just because Manning signs a 7-year contract, it doesn't mean he will play that long. As for his protection, O-lineman get old or hurt. Manning is getting to the point in his career where maintaining his health is paramount. During their winning streak, Manning HAD to stay in because the Colts kept falling behind. Had they been able to get a good lead, The Colts would probably "ran" the ball to take time off the clock. His back-up would probably replaced him, as well.

Nice breakdown of the numbers. It is very possible Manning could break his records, but it is hard to catch a guy who is still playing and putting up career numbers still. I think he could break some of the records but not all of them.

I think he will catch Favre because it is going to get to the point where people don't want Favre on their team anymore. He is too old to keep playing. Manning is climbing a lot of stat lists faster than any other qb ever has. Big ones, youngest player to reach 50,000 yards, and will be the youngest to get 400 touchdowns, He should do that next season. I say Manning reaches far beyond Favre, but one thing, you can rest assured that Manning will play more than 4 more years, it is rumored that the Colts are going to get him a 7 year deal, which would play him until he is 40. He may play beyond that too, he is the best protected qb in the league and dosent take a lot of hits. When Manning retires, he will be considered the best to ever play.

Dont give me this crap either that oh brady has more rings than manning, Brady's stats are considerably lower than manning and he is only 2 years behind. Also Super Bowls define the team, not the player

Manning MVP's 3(should be 4 by this weekend NFL RECORD)

    Brady MVP 1.

As a player, Manning is better.

i know peyton will play longer than 4 more years. he's 33 now, so after 4 more seasons he'd be 37. favre is 40 and probably doesn't play more than one more season (that is if he ever does realize he can't play until he's 50.) peyton will have i think about 6 or seven more years, and as long as favre doesn't play that much longer too (of which there is no guarantee at this point) he will pass him in every major statistical category...except interceptions. that one brett will hold forever.

Manning will have all of brett's numbers when it's all said and done. Manning is still at the top of his game and i see him playing at least for 5 more years. He should still be just as good as this year for 3 more years and then maybe slightly declining.

It's possible. If he stays long like Brett Favre then yes.
