Ah!! For a start you cannot be an atheist for they KNOW there are no such thing as any sort of gods and in wishing you could believe you still play lip service to the possibility of a god!!

Atheists do not try to make religion sound ridiculous. All the worlds religions and atheists live in peace except for the attacks from christians!!

You have to realize something quite basic here that was put very well by Carl Sagan when he said “Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence"

Academia states that in the absence of proof of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable proof is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one!!! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!!

At best he was an amalgam of those others!!

The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god!!! He also organized Christianity into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

What a wonder full disinformation and deception campaign he waged against his Christian enemies - so good in fact that Christians are still following the deception to this day!!!

The first person to provide a shred of verifiable evidence for God will become world famous and mega rich!! Ain't happened yet and it never will!!

So all atheists are doing is providing the evidence that all these claims are false!!

If religious people are happy being religious, then I don't care.

It's when they try to force their religion on others that I am forced to react. Discrimination against homosexuals, limiting marriage and who is permitted to adopt, trying to limit women's access to reproductive services or abolish them altogether, trying to get prayer and creationism in schools, certain states barring atheists from holding office.... These are all things that affect me on a personal level, and affect my country as a whole. I don't want to make their religions sound ridiculous - many of them do a fine job of that on their own - but imposing their beliefs on me/my country is not right, and if they are going to use their religion as justification, then it is the religion that comes under fire.

Because people are still killing and dying for the sake of religion.

Because civil rights are still being denied to people in our communities because of religion.

Because science and medicine are still being fought and suppressed by the religious.

Because churches and religious scams are getting billions of dollars from the easily deceived.

If those things make you happy, okay, you're entitled to your opinion. But I'm not going to sit quietly while this happens.

How would you feel if all of those things were happening because of a belief in Santa Claus?

A lot of atheists believe that a religious person's happiness comes from ignorance and stupidity.

Wouldn't you make someone feel ridiculous if they were a grown up who believed in Santa? Now let's say that group went out of their way to make people fall in line with their belief; like condemning people who were "naughty" because Santa wasn't gonna give them a present this year.

the first thing that comes to my mind is that those that do this with such fever without any reasonable intent, are only overcompensating for the lack of their own belief. as if they aren't quite sure, but will go along for the sake of not being a follower.

It's not as simple as letting them believe what they want,a tenet of most religions is convert all others,quite frankly believe as I do or you are despicable is a ridiculous belief and should be ridiculed.
