Is it just me or did Alabama play pretty conservative after McCoy got hurt?
Texas at the beginning looked to be pretty dominating during the first quarter, but after McCoy got hurt, Gilbert, being the "rookie" was asked to do more than he was able. But I think Alabama would still have won the game mainly because the Tide would not have stayed so conservative had McCoy stayed in the game. Your thoughts? I will say, my hats off to Texas for not rolling over and quitting.

You people are driving me insane. Teams do not play conservatively in the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!! If that freshman is good enough to play at Texas, he's considered a threat and Alabama eventually just took control of the game. Things that happen in the first five minutes of a game do not decide what happens in the other 3 quarters. Learn about football would ya?

It amazes me that the people on this site see things that didn't happen. Some people know without a doubt that McCoy would've won the game for Texas. lol

I think Alabama would have probably lost by 3 or 7. Heres why On the first two drives Texas got the ball with good field possession yet they did not get much yards as gilbert just game in the game. With McCoy there they easily would have gotten 10 at minimum and possibly 14. Also Gilbert went scoreless for the first 2 quarters and one half and most likely with McCoy there they probably would have gotten at least 10-14 points and I dont think that he would have made the same error Gilbert made by turning it over at end of half. So I possibly think Alabama would have scored more than 20 points by midway of 3rd quarter and alabama would have just had 16 at most.

I don't think Alabama would have won for 4 reasons:
1) McCoy being out there = Less interceptions and more points.
2) McCoy being out there = Ball being spread out around the field, so the run game gets going.
3) McCoy being out there = Longer drives and more rest for Texas defense.
4) McCoy being out there = Longer distances for Alabama to go to score.
Nick Saban didn't make the adjustments after half time, while the Texas Longhorns did. This is all speculation of course, but I really do have a strong feeling that the 'Horns would have pulled it out. I honestly don't think the Alabama defense could have been more liberal with their play calling.
Great game, both sides! Alabama deserved to win. They capitalized on our issued like anyone would.

Offensively, Alabama played the most conservative game all year. All they did was run the ball and that was because the Texas D was too much for McElroy. Yeah they ran efficiently but two scores were on the goal line or within the five. And in the beginning, the Texas "rookie" was asked to do what he knew (draws, handoffs, and screens) not too much. In the second half he was asked to do too much because he had to make a come back (i.e. air it out).

Texas is not a good TEAM at all. A good team is the team that able to play at the high level regardless of one or two or three key players currently playing or not. This Texas team last nite shown their weakness after their starting QB got hurt. After that, the entire team, entire organization just collapsed. If they were a good team (13-0) they should still be good even if Colt gone, too bad, last nite proved that w/o Colt, they are not a team.

One demisional.....duh...don't quit your day job. This was going to be a really cool game...yea..Texas is a passing team...Alabama a running team... Our defense against their defense. They both oppose each others strengths really well. Alabama uses the run to open up the passing...Texas uses the pass to open up the run. Too bad, really cut down on what could of been the game of the century.
One demisional? Alabama threw for a total of....wait for it...11 passes...for the WHOLE game.
You should know one demisional pretty well....lol
Just the same...congrats Alabama!
And yes...I believe Bama took assesment of the damage in Colt being hurt and appropriately went conservative...just keep the ball down on their end and let the defense handle em...why wouldn't you. I think it was the right strategy. So we will never know what a great game this really would of been...but thats not Bama's fault...

Shows you how one dimensional the Texas offence is.

Yes, but it almost cost them.
Gilbert tore them up for most of the second half.
