People lived for a long time before the Flood. Check the details and you will find that life-spans began to decline after the Flood. Much changed with the flood, including something which makes us age quicker.

It suggests that before the flood this planet was different. There was a canopy of water and minerals surrounding this planet. It came crashing down at the flood. And from then on people aged much quicker.
