PCSing to Fort Carson, need to know what schools have special education?

We have a four year old daughter who is developmentally delayed. I would like right away get her back in to school once we get there. Also to look for a house in the boundaries of the school.

Widefield School District #3 has preschools in the Ft. Carson area (Southern Co. Springs) contact info is here: http://preschool.wsd3.org/

There are also 3 Montessori Schools in Springs. They are private schools, but they give military discounts (and your child will recieve better attention there due to smaller class sizes, in my opinion). The only problem with these schools is they are not real near the base and traffic can be a bit crazy in the Springs sometimes (especially on bad weather days). Their website and contact info is here: http://www.montessorichild.com/

    Here's a link to a few others: http://www.bing.com/local/default.aspx?q=preschool...

As far as houses, Fountain and Security are really close suburbs to the base. The Broadmoor area and Cheyenne Mtn. areas are REALLY nice, but pricy. Check here for rentals:

Feel free to msg me if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.

    Hey Jennifer,

I have a daughter with DS. We lived in COS 2001-2006 and will return there this year. Anna attended Otero Elementary and the teachers are really nice there. I am still in touch with some of them. I liked it and so did Anna. From what I heard the best programs are in D12 (District 12). Schools on post back then had a bit of bad rap in ref to special ed except for one. But that might have changed. We lived off post and there was no way for us to get into the school.

Forgot which district Otero is but it's right outside Fort Carson (Cheyenne Meadows) and it was super nice being so close but NOT on post. 2 mins to the commissary and the skies program (who were very accomodating with Anna's gymnastics and ballet lessons.

If you daughter is delayed she would also qualify for the *free* preschool that they have in Otero. It's half day and they reserve(d) spots for special needs children. Kindergarten is half-day as well. If your child also has

Some physical issues see if you can get on a "medicaid waiver" list (3 year waiting period but do it anyway) - you'll get special services paid even if you don't qualify for medicaid....

There is a special needs liason on post.

Oh, yes and there is a very nice YMCA close to Cheyenne Meadows that offers a military Y program. Something to look into.

Where are you moving from and when are you moving?

    Susanna
