Hey R&P..."Name that album" part 1!?

Here's a little game that I've devised by taking pictures of a few vinyl albums within my collection. This is Part 1 of a series of similar questions I plan on asking over the coming weeks. I've tried to avoid using the front cover (as not to give to much info away), so most of the pics I'll be using will either be of the back cover, or inner gatefolds etc...So without any further ramblings, please try your best to name the following albums below...Band/Album title...a couple of these are super easy!

1) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

2) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

3) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

4) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

5) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

6) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

7) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

8) http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlaun...

I'll reveal front cover pics when I close this question...Thanks for playing!

Update:

Maybe next time I'll give some clues...however, with these types of questions sometimes there's a fine line between too easy, and quite difficult.

Update 2:

Yep...#8 is Thin Lizzy's 3rd LP 'Vagabonds of the Western World' (1973). That's the original back cover...for many years the CD reissues on Deram/London never had that pic.

Update 3:

Oh...and the Fat Lady in #4 is Jo Jo Gunne's album "Jumpin' the Gunne". The were a sort of 'Spirit' off-shoot band.

Update 4:

.

I basically chose album covers by bands that have been discussed within R&P from time to time, or artists affiliated with those those bands as the source of this question.

C'mon...don't give up yet :)

Update 5:

Here's the true identity of each album...

1) Omega - 5 (1973). Hungarian space rock/prog band formed in the late 60's, and active up to the present. Their best material was released between 1971-78. I've seen a couple Y!A R&P reg's mention them a few times recently...

Inner Gatefold...

2) Kayak - See See The Sun (1973). 70's Dutch Progressive rock band...similar in style to bands like 'Focus' and 'Yes', etc.

Update 6:

.

3) Peter Kaukonen - Black Kangaroo (1972). Brother of famed Jefferson Airlpane/Hot Tuna guitarist Jorma Kaukonen. Peter was also a great guitarist, and played with a slightly heavier style than Jorma. He's a well known San Fransisco Bay area guitarist, whose repertoire includes performing and recording with Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna, Johnny Winter, and many others. This is his somewhat rare solo LP from 1972. Peter also played with Jefferson Starship.

Inner Gatefold:

Update 7:

.

4) OSE - Adonia (1978). Great 70's experimental prog band from Paris France. This LP features three musicians...all member of 'Heldon'; Herve Picart (mini moog, poly moog, Hammond organ, acoustic & electric guitars & moog bass), Richard Pinhas (moog 55 & B synth's, sequencers, ARP, Oberheim expander, mini moog, poly moog & guitars), and Francois Auger (drums).

It's a mind blowing sonic experience, as are most artists on the French 'EGG' label. I love it, lots of spacy keyboards and fuzzy guitars.Fans of 'Heldon', 'Klaus Schulze', and 'Vangelis' are sure to enjoy...

Update 8:

.

5) Streetwalkers - Downtown Flyers (1975). 70's rock band featuring former members of UK band 'Family'...Roger Chapman (vocals), and Charlie Whitney (guitars). The lineup also included vocalist/guitarist Bob Tench ( Jeff beck Group). Streetwalkers are also known for featuring a young drummer by the name of Nicko McBrain...many years before going onto fame with Iron Maiden...

Update 9:

.

6) Edgar Broughton Band - Sing Brother Sing (1970). Excellent late 60's-70's UK hard rock/blues/psych band...one of the first artists along with Pink Floyd to appear on EMI's 'Harvest' label...

Front Cover...

Inner Gatefold...

Update 10:

7) Golden Earring - Eight Miles High (1969). Mid 60's - present Dutch rock band, known for their world wide hit 'Radar Love'...this album is my favorite by them, and features a heavy 19 minute version of the 'Byrds' classic 'Eight Miles High'...

Front Cover...

8) Thin Lizzy - Vagabonds of the Western World....glad most of you nailed this!

    Hi Smiley!

    This should be fun!

    1) The Association

    2) Savoy Brown

    3) Men At Work, Midnight Oil, or Kangaroo

    4) Kim Mitchell

    5) Roxy Music

    6) Grand Funk Railroad

    7) Japan

    8) Thin Lizzy - Vagabonds of the Western World

    How'd I do?

Edit; OK, I'm stumped on the rest of them!

Edit2, OK I'm guessing on the rest, this is driving me crazy!

I know 8 was just used as a answer by you, and was a Thin Lizzy question. and 6 + 7 look familiar.

If they all are Thin Lizzy .... I didn't have any of their albums to help me on this. Although I liked their earlier stuff pretty much.... Later they were more predictable.

I would suck at this with all artists though, even if I have or had the album. Sorry to say most of it is HAD.

    Good evening Smiley :)

Sad to say, I cannot name any of them, but I get the feeling I should know 6 & 7.

If you ever decide to give away your vinyl collection... I'll take a few hundred!

I had a feeling #8 was Thin Lizzy, but had no idea what the album was, and thought there was too few members with only 3...

Just to say that I can't really answer your album cover questions, even if I knew some or several of the albums...

As you know, some R&P users might consider it as cheating......knowing that I could easily walk into your record room and check them out one by one :D

By the way, as some here mention already, your vinyl collection is awesome. I want to tell them that there are many more albums that can't be seen on these photos. I live in vinyl wonderland and when you spin them for me it is vinyl heaven!

ohhhh and Number 8 is Thin Lizzy!!! LOL.

What a brilliant question, and full credit for taking so much time and effort!

Alas, just 1, which I also think is Thin Lizzy. That Album Collection looks awesome!

I can't determine one. But I will say this - your vinyl collection looks superb. I would be like a kid in Disneyland if I could listen to some of those vinyl albums. It's kind of sad that we lost all that great artwork that accompanies vinyl - a real merge between music and the visual arts.

Man, I can't name a damn one. :P Yeah one of the disadvantages about getting your music online is often you have no idea about the album covers, especially the back cover and inner sleeve. I'll take another look and see if I can venture a guess.
