How do we get a cookbook published?

I just LOVE fundraiser and community cookbooks! Especially older ones - it gives you a good sense of what local life was like, what people ate on a day to day basis, etc.

There are several ways to start. Did you know there are companies that specialize in helping groups pull together a cookbook, they'll do everything from providing a website to input the recipes, to layout, to final printing and everywhere in between.

If you are more of a do-it-yourself type person or you have volunteers with good organizational and editor abilities - you might want to pull it together yourself, and contact local printers to see what kind of a deal they can give you. The most expensive part of printing is the binding - so if you use comb binders, it may be cheaper to assemble them yourself.

What a fun project - but a lot of work. But they are worth it. I hope the above websites give you some ideas on how to start. Check out other similar cookbooks to see how they have theirs organized and then put your organisations spin on it.
