Can you explain this math question? 3^4 – (-8.3) (-10) -20?

3^4 – (-8.3) (-10) -20

I am taking a math placement exam tonight and this question is on the practice test. I know the answer is -22, because the practice test has an answer key -- but I have no idea how to approach this problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

First, you want to remember PEMDAS which stands for

    P - Parentheses

    E - Exponents

    M - Multiplication

    D - Division

    A - Addition

    S - Subtraction

I say that for those are the order you want to follow when doing this problem.

    First, you notice that you have -8.3 X -10 which equals 83 ( negative X negative = positive )

Next, you see an exponent 3^4 which equals 81

Once solving that, you have this equation so far

    81 - 83 - 20

And from then on, it's simple subtraction which gives you the final answer of -22

    Hope this helps !

P.S : Remember to take each question slowly, and think about what to do first. Don't rush or silly mistakes WILL HAPPEN ! good luck on your exam

    3^4=3x3x3x3=81

    -8.3x-10=83

    This gives 81-83-20=-22
