My son also loves to sit on the potty forever. He has a seat insert so it is quite comfortable for him. When he uses another toilet, he gets off much quicker. So maybe try taking away the insert if you have one? Also, my son will read books or play on there forever, after a little while, I will say no more and take the books away.

I also distract him with something fun we are going to do next,

If I were you, be happy is likes the potty at 26 months though! my son is a little over three and we didn't get him potty trained until a few months ago. Since yours likes it so much, hopefully, training will go more smoothly than ours did/is.

I am currently trying to get my son ON the potty and we have a "treasure box" filled with inexpensive toys and sweets. If he tells me when he has to go and makes it to the potty, he gets to pick a treasure. Maybe try using this to get him off the potty. Tell him he gets to pick a treasure once he is done and out of the bathroom. Good luck!
