    No.

Two wrongs don't make a right, killing a person doesn't bring back their victim(s), and the criminal justice system cannot be trusted to get it 100% right every single time.

Yes I do think we should re-introduce the death penalty

If Britain did bring the death penalty back then it should be used only in extreme circumstances i.e. the murder of a Police Officer, murder whilst committing a crime or premeditated murder.

Murder should also be categorised into different levels like murder 1, 2 & 3 with 1 being the worst and 2 & 3 allowing the Judge to give the appropriate sentence for the crime and not as it is at the moment life which in most cases means only 15 years.

    Yes.

    Murder

Terrorist acts (if they kill or maim, or intend to)

    Treason

Certain offences against children (rape, buggery)

We live in a world that has changed in scientific terms beyond recognition. I would add that we should also have a comprehensive DNA database. I strongly believe that this would prevent many people from considering serious crime in the first place.

Where we cannot prove beyond total doubt that a person is say a killer, but the evidence is almost totally compelling, then we should imprison pending further investigation.

Prison should be harsh and sentences increased. The USA has a massive prison population and they impose long terms, the do gooders will point out that this has not deterred crime in any significant way. However, the USA is ahead of us in the way the streets are developing and for the vast majority of those likely to end up in prison, their way of life is determined from a young age and they do not even consider the consequences of crime until they are banged up for 25 years or so.

It is having a deterrent effect, but because of the size of the problem it will take many more years for their fairly draconian system to kick into the streets and help to slow the crime rate down.

We are still in a position where to bring in harsh punishments would have a significant effect quickly enough to prevent many from risking the sort of crimes they now commit with virtually no fear of being caught leave alone punished.

    Hello

If there is no doubt then YES with no right to appeal like they do in the USA.

Why should we pay thousands of pounds every week to keep a prisoner in prison, You would also see crime levels fall. The prisons would not get so overcrowded.

I say that until the Time fits the Crime we will not see the crime levels drop.

I also say drug addicts should be locked up in a (drying out camp) and made to go Cold Turkey and the Dealers put in there with them but shackled

    Yes...for murder.

Compare the murder rates in the UK in the 1950s when the death penalty was still available with today, when the worst a murderer can expect is a stint in one of HM's holiday camps...er, prisons...with state of the art gymnasia, wide-screen TVs, DVDs, computers, pool tables etc.

There are more murders today in 1 WEEK than in a YEAR in the 50s ( so don't tell me it's not a deterrent). If someone going out with a knife or a gun and prepared to use them knew that they could be hearing those words.."...and hanged by the neck until you are dead"....they'd think twice about it.

The choice is simple....if you don't want to be hanged....don't murder anyone!!!

As for convicting the wrong person....today's technology is so good the chances of the wrong person being convicted is less than one in a million.....but if there IS a doubt....don't execute. That doesn't mean that people like the Yorkshire ripper, Dr Shipman etc shouldn't be executed!

The demise penalty shouldn't in any respect be presented for something, there have been to many situations the place people have been imprisoned for years in easy terms to be got here across harmless years later. i might although lock them up for existence. The killing section is likewise correct, maximum paedophiles do no longer kill their victims, yet extra might in the event that they knew they may well be executed for their crime as they might not decide directly to pass away the sufferer to % out them. If the punishments a similar for the two crimes then they might experience they have no longer something to lose.

Nope. I am for the death penalty in principle, but not in practice. The criminal justice system will never be able to hand it down fairly, equitably, and consistently.
