What the hell was "Mulholland Drive" about?
I'm pretty good when thinking outside the box. I understand the ending of "American Beauty." He could have actually done it - or he "thought" it in his sick mind.
"Mulholland Drive?" No idea. I wasted 2 hours watching this mess!

No time is ever wasted watching a film like "Mulholland Drive." It's not an easy story to follow in the linear "beginning, middle and end" order we're all used to seeing. However, its themes of love, passion, obsession, and even regret, some argue, tell a tragic tale of the mental collapse of a young aspiring actress.
Since seeing this film, I've read a lot of the theories about what David Lynch was trying to say. A lot of people think that it's not meant to be fully understood, while others are convinced he has left clues for his audience to piece it all together. I'm still not sure what exactly the movie is about, but I think that's exactly why it has had such a great impact on the world of film.
I suggest you read the theories and decide for yourself!

That's David Lynch. If you don't like it (and I don't), don't watch his films. American Beauty, by the way, is one of my all-time favorites. There's a lot in that film, every time you watch it you pick up something new, like the use of the color red and roses especially indicating how much the characters were putting on an act vs. being their true selves. In a scene with a rose, something is a bit fake. In a scene with thousands of rose petals falling from the ceiling, it's completely imagined, of course.
