Need help with visiting St. Thomas?

We are taking a cruise via Royal Caribbean to St. Thomas this spring and we would like to know if the Amber Museum & the 99 Steps are within walking distance of the cruise ship ports.

It does not seem that way from what I have seen when I googled it!

Well it all depends on which dock that your cruise ship arrives at. There is one on the east side of Charlotte Amalie and one on the west side. The one on the west side isn't to far from either location that you want to visit.

The nice thing is that there are tons of taxis when you get off of your ship and it won't be hard to get one. Have the taxi drop you off at Hotel 1829, the steps are east of the hotel, but not far at all. Once you are done with the steps, head on up to Haagensen House Museum and Blackbeard's Castle. That's where you'll find that Amber museum as well.

If those are in "downtown" Charlotte Amalie, then it would be a very long walk, especially on a hot day. And the walk would be along a busy highway.

You should be able to get a cab there from the dock. That wouldn't be far, whichever dock you are at.

You might want to check CruiseCritic.com. Click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call". You can find info on all your ports there, from experienced cruisers. Just browse a bit. Or, if you join CC [it's free], you can search a board or post a question.
