Passing cars in funerals, do you pull over?
OK here is my question. When you are driving do you pull over? And more specifically do you pull over if the procession is on the other side of the road doing the opposite way as you? I understand not getting in their way and of course not trying to cut in or interrupt the procession. BUT WHY if you are on the other side going the other way???? I am from California and have also lived in Oregon and never say this tradition until I moved to the midwest.
so far thats the same thing I think. But seriously here they pull over on either side of the street....
just to say I too have respect for people living and dead and respect the ones who are greiving for the dead. But I do not see the point in pulling over when not even close to the precession. also Californiana are respectful people and Im not sure what was meant by "ahhh Californians..."

You aren't supposed to pull over if it's on the other side of the road. There aren't laws that state you have to pull over at all, it's done out of respect for the family. They should have the right of way at an intersection if led by a police car or a funeral vehicle with flashing lights. It's actually viewed differently in different states. In Texas some will pull over and remove their hats.

I've never seen people stop going the opposite way in Michigan. I would stop if they were on my side out of respect. I was told a woman cut through my mom's funeral procession at a light. If I had known that at the time, I would have gotten out of the car and "taught her how to respect the dead".

On a divided highway, no. However, I have seen people pull over on a 2 lane road. In fact, when I was with my brother and sister Patriot Guard Riders and were escorting Master Diver, Master Chief Carl Brashear (subject of the movie MEN OF HONOR, played by Cuba Gooding)(he lived here in Virginia Beach, and died in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital), I saw one woman who was coming towards us pull over, get out of her van and stood with her hand over her heart. Several cars behind her pulled over and stopped. I see this a lot on the 2 lane roads here
