what kind of comics to get an 8 year old.?
My 8 year is just now getting into comics. He loves to read and my husband got him some toys that had a comic book with it. I believe its x men, but I have no idea. Anyhow, I was wondering what is a good comic book set for him. My husband is saying the newer comic books are more for older teens/young 20’s and can be racy. I’m wanting to buy a set or two (if I can find one) on ebay, but I need something to look for. A jumping off point.
So, what comic books should I be looking for that would be okay for an 8 year old to read.
He loves any kind of super hero movie. But he seems to go for more Marvel then DC on the movies. But he loves batman. I’m looking for something not over the top violent but I know most comics are good guys vs. bad guys. Any and all ideas would be helpful. Thanks
Also, I'd like to stay away from any type of Manga. Where he's just learning how to read a comic book, I think doing it backwards would confuse him.

A majority of the comics tend to be darker and more to teens or older. But DC Comics and Marvel Comics have books for younger kids.
Just a few titles:
Batman: The Brave and the Bold
BILLY BATSON AND THE MAGIC OF SHAZAM!
Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man
Marvel Adventures: Hulk
Some independent companies have children books
BOOM! Studios has Cars, Monsters Inc., and Toy Story comics
IDW Publishing has Transformers
If your son like fantasy, a great book is "Bone"

A decent comic book store should be able to help you out.

Hello Kim my name is George Negroni and I am the owner of heroes are forever .com an online comic book store ( pre order subscription service) ok so to answer your question he is 8 so....... I would say hold on let me see what I have here so I can give you an idea,...... ok so I carry Johnny DC which is set up for kids his age also as for older books lets see oh I have the DC super powers from the cartoon show as for marvel....most of the 1980's stuff should be ok for him to read like gi joe, thundercats, he-man, heathcliff the cat, any of your early 1980's comics are ok they had better restrictions back then, of course thats when they used the comics code athrty. these where the people who made sure kids could read them too but as you can see they dont use them anymore.
But some of us in this business are trying to bring it back again so everybody can read and enjoy comic books again.

Sonic the Hedgehog comics are good for kids that age, they're actually very interesting, I read them all the time. I'm 13.

My boyfriend has Superman stuff everywhere in my house. His 2 year old son always reads little Superman stuff too.
It's still within the limits of limited violence but when he gets older or if he hasn't already, watch all the original and new Superman movies.
