Question for Republicans (U.S. political party): Do you believe in creation or evolution?

This question is mainly directed to supporters of the U.S. Republican Party who may be on this category at this moment, but anyone else is welcome to respond.

I've read that various polls suggest that up to 68%-70% of registered Republicans do not believe in evolution. So my first question is, do you as a Republican believe in evolution or creation, and my second question is, does your opinion on this issue play any role in what candidate you choose to elect for public office?

And finally, what is your opinion on this quote from President Obama: "Our schools are there to teach worldly knowledge and science. I believe in evolution, and I believe there’s a difference between science and faith. That doesn’t make faith any less important than science. It just means they’re two different things."

I ask in this category and not the politics category because I'm hoping I can get some decent responses from religious Republicans on this category.

Update:

@Arthvader, you state "impeached on suspicion of treason" - You're suggesting that a president should be impeached if he or she believes in evolution? Isn't that a violation of the First Amendment?

I'm not a Republican---more of a slightly more rightward-leaning independent who strongly dislikes the 2 party system. I believe in evolution---I see no reason why evolution and creationism have to be mutually exclusive beliefs. Evolution was a complex, and statistically unlikely-to-happen process...a divine being who guided such a process must be much more complex and powerful than one who simply snapped his fingers and made humans appear. But those are just my opinions.

I could care less about Obama's views on evolution. What does concern me is that the man still thinks that money grows on trees, that you can tax industries ad infinitum with no consequence, dangles socially libertarian (which I support) causes over peoples heads to be used whenever his poll numbers drop (he does this with gay rights a lot), and appoints either corrupt slimeballs or incompetent boobs to high offices.

I believe in creation and evolution. It's not an either-or choice. There are many ways that creation and evolution can be "fitted" together. My college degree is in math and physics education. Perhaps you would not be satisfied with the way that I personally choose to fit the two together. There is a very wide variety of ways that Christians understand this.

As a conservative, I like almost none of Obama's policies and strategies. I'll leave that there, because I could elaborate for hours. But It may be comfoting, in a way, that I regard the Republich leadership as far too "moderate" and not really driven by conservative principles. For example, Bush signed McCain Fiengold, while stating that it was unconstitutional. Why would the president, sworn to protect and uphold the constitution, sign an unconstitutional bill into law? That's insane. It seems clearly unconstitutional to me, because its primary purpose is to regulate and limit political speech, which is the kind of speech that is the most hightly protected form of speech under our constitution. It sort of dovetails with the right to assembly, in that political organizations MUST have completely free speech, Using money to restrict that speech is intolerable. I am amazed that there hasn't been a serious constitutional challenge to this law.

I'm a registered Republican and an atheist. I do not look at religious beliefs in a potential candidate. I do consider demonstrated moral values though. Don' t really have an opinion on the statement by the President.

Republican and I believe that both ideas can exist together.

Why should I care about a candidate's view on how earth was created?

I'm more concerned about raising taxes, lousy health care reform bills that no one takes the time to read, and why the president had to make 4 different announcements during that Delta flight, because it sorta falls under the category of "idontknowwhatthehellimdoing".

I'm a moderate, but I tend to like Republican candidates more. I believe in evolution, and this does sway my vote. I agree with Obama.

I am a molecular geneticist and christian.

I believe God created the variety of living organisms by the method of evolution. We are learning how God have worked partially from scientific evidences. We don't have to be shocked at the fact that God can even control the so many variables to show something that seems to happened by chance to us.

Neither. Absolutely no one knows where the earth came from. Evolution explains a lot but it's not convincing to me. A giant Blue dinosaur could have created the world for all I know.

    Source(s): Republican.
  • I am a Republican who believes in the One God above.

I vote for the character (as much as can be truthfully attained) of the person running for office, regardless of party affiliation.

With the election of this current administration, we have dumped on the people of this country and we will all pay the piper now! (I did not vote for him!)

I believe in both Creation and evolution. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
