What do you think of hyphenated names?

Do you think it is OK to hyphenate a first name, eg. Regan-Jayne, and do you like or dislike them, and why.

If I were to use the name Regan-Jayne (first name) Michala (second name), do you think it needs the hyphen, or should it just be Regan Jayne Michala??

Thanks

I like some hyphenated names such as Sarah-Jane and Mary-Anna.. I'm not sure about Regan-Jayne as I don't think the names flow well enough to be put together that way.

If you intend on calling your child "Regan-Jayne", then go ahead and hyphenate it. If you're just going to call her Regan, then don't. Congrats!

Hyphenated names can be a real curse.

Data entry clerks often miss them which means your child has the potential to have double records for school, medical treatments, official government documentation (IRS, etc).

You're just BEGGING for problems for your child.

Leave the name as Regan Jayne Michala (properly spelled Regan Jane Michaela) but know that the Michaela part will get lost in the mists of time to anyone except immediate family. There is no room on most forms for a 3rd name so she'll either be Regan Jane or Regan J.M.

I'm pretty sure no one would ever call her by Regan Jayne since it's just too long and those names don't really go together in a way that would make them good for use as one name. I'm not a big fan of hyphenated names. I mean, if other people like them that's fine, but it's just not something I'm into.

I like them. As long as they are nice names and sound good together.

I would give a hyphenated name a middle name.

Regan Jayne Michala - that's a first name a two middle names. She would just get called Reagan.

Reagan-Jayne Michala - that's a double first name and a middle name. This way she will get called Reagan-Jayne, not just Reagan.

You need the hyphen so people know it's a double name!

I love the name Lola-Rose, with the middle name Elizabeth. The hyphen is so that people call her Lola-Rose and not Lola.

    Other popular double names are:

    Anne-Marie

    Mary-Kate

    Sarah-Jane

    Aiden-James

    Jayden-James

    :-)

I don't like them. It just looks wrong and silly to me. Regan Jayne Michala.

My first name is hyphenated - it's Ailish-Rose. No one calls me that, I ended up going by Aili with friends and family and Ailish professionally. Personally, I never liked having a hyphenated first name, it's a bit of a pain explaining to everyone how they're both first names and Rose is not a middle name. :)

I think that if you want to call her Regan, you should just give her one first name and two middle names.
