What countries give the US foreign aid?
The US seems to pump billions upon billions of our tax dollars overseas for foreign aid. Did any countries give foreign aid to help us rebuild New Orleans, or other catastrophes we have had?
I know the Haiti thing is horrible and nothing any country can realistically plan for. The ones that get me are the countries that don't have sufficient resources to support the size of their population....and they keep cranking out the kids. Almost like the welfare mom with 6 kids....but on a much larger scale.
"Plenty" does not tell me much of anything. I'm looking for what countries DO help us, and if so, how much money have they given us for what disaster(s).
What other countries give the same foreign countries aid, and how much as compared to the US? It seems we bail out EVERYONE....with our hard earned money.
Vera: Navy ships and troops going over there does cost us a pretty penny. Not to mention even more yet hardship for the troops that are hardly ever home as it is.
Mordent and renclrk....great answers. Thank you...exactly what I was looking for.

not bad for a country of 19 million people
edit: you're welcome

What undermines us? Who is "us"? Reagan sent money and weapons to cocaine smugglers, terrorist and nun rapers in Central America and you're okay with that. What are our interests, these aren't mine? That was not cool, and it undermined human decency. How and who determines what is in the best interst of the US is open to debate. Edit- Rape nuns in El Salvador to further the national interests and hurt the Soviets and you call that a good thing, can't sign on for that even if it's okay with you, sorry. And this sums up what you consider in the national interest. that's what I don't get about conservatives, willing to throw away all morality and decency inorder for the bigger picture, not caring about individuals, or anyone, just some bigger picture that they determine. And it was Reagan's buddies who were policing the world when they murdered those nuns in El Salvador. Did you ask the great senile one why he thought the US should be policing the world? No, because murdering nuns is okay with you. What profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?

After hurricane Katrina Venezuela and Cuba - both hostile to the US - were the first countries to offer international assistance, pledging $1million, mobile hospitals, water purification equipment, medicine and more than a thousand doctors. This aid was rejected by the US government.
Kuwait donated $500 million - more than 3 times the US government donation to Haiti. Qatar and the UAE both donated $100 million. South Korea gave $30 million, Australia $10 million. Even China donated $5 million. India donated $5 million and sent emergency equipment and supplies. Israel sent a detachment of the IDF.
Even Sri Lanka - itself recovering from the tsunami in 2004, offered help. Anyone who says the US gets nothing simply doesn't know what they're talking about.
Your fellow countrymen are coming up to the $2 billion mark in donations. The US is a generous nation, even if your previous government was not - and what goes around comes around.

=') First of all, the US are considered as a 'rich' country, that's why they don't get so much aid from other countries. Third world countries just need the aid, because without it, nothing would happen. After all, we are humans and we have to respect each other. It's in our nature to help people who aren't as lucky to have the comfort that we have. They can't help it that they were born in a 'poor' country, but that doesn't mean they have to live in hell!
I live in Europe, and if something bad happened in a European country, we wouldn't get any aid either. The US and Europe have a special 'emergency' fond in case things like this happen, that's why they won't get 'aid' for themselves... Third world countries don't have emergency fonds they can rely on.
Hope this helped!

Are you expecting poor azz Haiti to come to our rescue??
Next time Bill Gates gets a speeding ticket, I'll expect the single mother on welfare to come rescue him by paying for it...

Wealthy countries don't usually need foreign aid, but other countries did help us during Katrina.

Nobody gives us anything.

I completely agree with you. I think it is so selfish for someone to have 10 kids. They really need to sterilize people or have a 1-child rule!!! Thank God for what happened to Haiti!!
