is it okay to put on collars with bells on my cats?

well, i decided not to put collars on them at first.

but i changed my mind because there's a lot of stray cats in my area, and i really don't want my cats to be regarded as one of them.

and, the reason i bought the collars with bells is because they showed up from everywhere, from the windows, under the bed, under the table, and a lot more!

this really freaked my family out.

so, my point here is, is the bell disturbing the cats nature?

but, my cats were still able to catch its prey (mouse) and brought it in our house.

personally, i think it's okay.

what do you think?

I would put bells on my cats collars because its stop them killing native wildlife. Like little birds and things. It doesnt disturb cats nature, it just lets birds and things know that they are there.

You could get a quick release collar with a bell, If your cat is inside. I don't recommend collars for outside cats because they can easily strangle themselves. The only real purpose for a bell was to warn rodents/birds of the cats presence, and possible attack. I've had bells on different cats who have never seemed to mind them, you can always try it out to see how the cats reaction is.

I personally think putting collars on cats is a silly idea. But yes, this is okay. MAKE SURE YOU GET A QUICK RELEASE COLLAR so if the cat happens to get stuck in a tree by the collar, the collar breaks instead of choking your cat to death! This has happened.

Bells on collars were made to scare off prey. However I have heard of cats still managing to bring home dead birds etc while wearing these collars, so I guess the cat learns not to bounce the bell around too much when hunting LOL.

Well my one cat never minded it however the other one really hated having a bell on his collar [so it depends on you cat]. I believe the reason they made collars with bells in the first place is so that the noise would warn wildlife that a cat was approaching.

Buy a large cowbell and string that around your neck for a day and see how you like it. Then imagine if your hearing was as acute as a cat's.

Collars are also a choking hazard. Do you want your cats to end up strangled to teeth on a tree branch or fence?

Why do you let them free roam? It's only a matter of time until your cats end up run over by a car, eaten by a coyote, shot at, poisoned or catching a disease from other cats - especially with "lots of strays" in your area.

Either move your cats indoors or rehome them with someone who won't treat them like wild animals.

We would put collars with bell on our cats all the time. The cats had no problem with them. They would play, lick themselves, and even hunt mice with no problem. However, having three cats running around with bells around their necks drove us crazy so we just cut them of the collar and problem solved.

cats cope just fine with belled collars,

saves local wildlife too cos they cant go around murdering birds and possums. the bell gives them away and thats the point

Its cute but having a flashy collar that doesn't make noise makes the cat easy to identify also no?

  • The best thing you could do is keep your cats in the house.

No i think it's mean they'd probably get annoyed, would you like a bell around your neck 24/7? not being mean just proving a point. =D
