Advice for traveling America next year July 2011 for 2 months, starting in New York.?
Get ready this is a long one!!....Right ok.. me and my boyfriend (both will be 23) are planning on flying to New York next July, somehow(if its possible, all by public transport) from there, we somehow wanted to get to see Miami/Florida, and possibly some surrounding part of Texas (or anywhere near there where we can experience that "type" of america if you understand what i mean..) After about 4 weeks we was hoping to fly from there to Nevada (Las Vegas) where we will also visit LA and possibly California. we was then planning on flying back to New york after the other 4 weeks to get the return flight back to london. (this is simply because the return flights for new york are only £350 each)
We don't want to hire a car out... is it enough to rely on public transport to get us from state to state?
Or are we going about this the completely wrong way ?
Any advice is greatly needed!!! Thank you.
(p.s, another idea would be to just book a one way flight to New york, travel down to Miami from there, then get a flight to las vegas and see the surrounding states, then get the return flight from there.)

WOW CAN i go with you! It all depends on what you want to see. You can rent a car but its more expensive being under 25 so i would go with other means of transportation like train, bus or plane along the east coast because there really isn't anything rural wise until you get to florida. When you are in miami you need to down to the florida keys. Here is an idea of what it looks like. Plus this is the kind of music you'll hear

But yeah i wouldn't get a car till you get out west. WHICH IS GORGEOUS! Texas is a country of its own. Houston and dallas kinda sucks, its not really Texas. Go to arlen, or san antonio and drive up through oklahoma. THATS COUNTRY. Plus them cowboys will try to sweep you off your feet so your BF might not like that.
But i would fly from miami to vegas. The only thing cool that youll miss is new orleans and Nasville, tennessee. both AMAZING cities for there nightlife.
But dont stay too long in vegas, Its nuts. You'll end up drinking and doing drugs and black out with a rocket launcher. Its easy to get drugs or whatever you want. You can go to a pawn shop at any time and buy an assault riffle. Honestly retarded **** happens there.
But From vegas take a car and go out to cali. Go to LA which is so-so and drive up route 1 along the coast to San Fransico then i would check out Yosemitte National Park which is one of our best parks http://www.nationalparkreservations.com/info/yosem... . and check out the grand canyon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon .
(p.s. places not worth going would be anywhere in what we call the midwest, which is really more like the central and northern middle east part of the US. Its just like europe, very well educated and genuine, but its flat and not scenic. Its not a place to vacation because there is nothing to see or do as a tourist here.
I would also try to go to a country music concert. Its one big laid back party in the sun. Especially a kenny chesney. If you want an idea of the type ofof music that you'll hear on the radio in the south especially texas here are some songs below. So if you dont like this you might want to bring CD's.
