Should I buy a desktop monitor or a TV?
My desktop's monitor died yesterday (two short days after the warranty expired). We use our desktop for kids' homework and websurfing, watching movies and backing up our laptops w/ carbonite. We don't own a TV.
So now, we are trying to decide. Should we replace the blown monitor with another computer monitor or a flat screen TV? We have the equipement to hook the computer to a TV.
We're looking at 22-23 inch monitors/tvs. Can anyone give me any tips on how to choose? I have no idea what the differences are between the two
Thanks!

I recommend getting an HDMI monitor (be sure it is HDCP compliant so it can play copy-protected HD video).
Monitors tend to be considerably cheaper than TVs, partly because they do not include built-in digital tuners (but this isn't necessary if you have a set-top box for your TV service anyway).
There are many affordable LCD monitors with full HD resolutions and two separate inputs (VGA and HDMI). On these monitors you can usually switch between the inputs with a simple press of a button. If you connect your PC via VGA, you can connect whatever other video source you want (e.g. Blu-ray/DVD) to the monitor's HDMI port.
If money is not an object, then you may find that a purchasing a reputable TV brand may be a better option for you. An LCD TV has the advantage of having several other inputs, not just VGA and HDMI, so it makes it easier to connect other devices. A TV also has a built-in tuner to pick up antenna broadcasts if you don't have a cable/satellite service. Not all monitors of built-in speakers, but all TVs sure do, so that is also something to keep in mind.

decide on a television. I absolutely were utilising a Sony liquid crystal demonstrate. I did quite some study about this same problem and that i don't experience sorry about one bit about my determination. I absolutely were utilising this setup for 3 years now, and could by no potential use a workstation visual demonstrate unit back. My contemporary setup is that I absolutely have pc workstation plugged into it, and my Xbox 360; I hardly watch commonly used television any more, yet I do have it plugged into my pc (residing house windows Media center computing device) so i will list something if i decide on. distinction between liquid crystal demonstrate & Plasma. in the adventure that your significant use will be with a workstation, then liquid crystal demonstrate is the superb determination - the picture high quality will be tremendous and renders images ideal with out any topics. in case you intend to apply it regularly for television, then i'd propose Plasma, for it handles quickly-paced gadgets significantly better acceptable with out pixalation, together with closeups of auto chases in action videos or activities together with football or basketball.

Total issue of price really...
TV = Personal opinion better option you get your Monitor after you have hooked it up, + TV, but is more expensive.
Monitor = just a monitor... less expensive.
