How do I find a literary agent to promote my new children's book series?
I am completing a series of books about a boy and his dog. I currently need an illustrator to complete the work, the text is written. Then I'll be looking for a literary agent specializing in children's books. I have 15 short stories written to an audience of 4 to 7 year old kids.
Any thoughts?
I have already copyrighted the material.

According to other children's book writers, the children's market is hard to break into, especially for picture books, because there aren't enough readers buying the books and they're expensive to publish. Anyway, literary agents don't promote books, they try to sell them to publishers (that's a big difference). You can find legit agents at agentquery.com , aaronline.org , and absolutewrite.com/forums has a section for those who write children's books and you can get more information from them. AbsoluteWrite also has a section where you can find background information about agents before you submit to them.
[EDIT] Also, if you're looking for legit agents and publishers then stay away from search engines. Search engines will bring up the vanity presses and fee charging agents who won't help your career - the scumbags in the industry, so to speak. If you want ethical agents and publishers whose number one goal isn't to take your money then you need to find writer's communities and get suggestions from other writers. There are also legit agencies that list ethical agents, but you have to know where to look for them. Doing a google or yahoo or bing search will bring up all the scammers in the business, and publishing is wrought with spammers, so I suggest you do thorough research.

the whole world is right at your fingertips, so goggle up an agent and illustrator do a search.
I'm sure there are tons out there, but don't know if they are ready to tackle an unknown. You ever have anything published before? If so that's a plus, but you should first go step by step in getting your books published and that's on the net too. Your first step would to get a copy write I would think, but I don't know that much about it (smile) My daughter had a book of her poems published and that's what she did first. Good luck!
