Where to find a custom furniture builder ?

you just gotta snoop...I have a buddy that just did some off blueprints for a nice house, very very expensive

Tell him that you love it but it is not in your price range and then throw around some names of other furniture stores and see what he says. Just let him know that the price is the only thing holding you back, and if he does not cave, ask him to throw in some type of warranty, or free delivery or something like that. Act like you can do without it and walk out. Furniture sales people are on commission so when he sees you leaving, commission on $2,000 is better than commission on $0. Trust me, he will work you a deal. And if he doesn't, go somewhere where you can get what you want for the price you can afford.
