Habs is short for habitants. Thats the name given to the settlers in Quebec who played hockey in the very cruel conditions in Canada. They were sorta trying to play the game they learned back in britian but made skates from bones and nets from sticks and etc to play hockey. Eventually these settlers got noticed and the game kept growing in Canada to eventually Nhl. They are called habs because the "Habitants" invented the game of ice hockey in Quebec.
Hope This Helps!!

Habs actually goes back to before the NHL. It's short for Habitant. The teams were basically divided in two..the english and the french. The english used it as a chant to insult the french. Eventually the teams united, but the nickname remained
This is what I was told by the Bell center tour guide

this question has no longer something to do with being a Montreal Canadiens Fan. everybody with a head for enterprise would do it because of the fact for a 20 greenback action picture value ticket you get a minimum one hundred$ return in this sort of a cost tag you ought to use or sell.
